Sheffield Wednesday have agreed to let midfielder Sean McAllister join Mansfield on a one-month loan. McAllister agreed a one-year contract with the Owls in July, but he has not featured in manager Brian Laws' first team this season.

Sheffield Wednesday are hoping that the signing of Derby defender Michael Johnson on a month's loan will be the catalyst to kick-start their season. The 34-year-old has not played for Derby this term and will join the Owls, who are still pointless in the Championship, under the Football League's emergency loan ruling.

Sheffield Wednesday have signed Sunderland midfielder Graham Kavanagh on a month's loan. Kavanagh has not played for Sunderland since last December and underwent two knee operations last season. He has been keen to get some first-team football and has been given permission to link up with The Owls.

Sheffield Wednesday v Hull preview
Quote:
New loan signings Michael Johnson and Graham Kavanagh are expected to feature for Sheffield Wednesday.
The Owls have lost all six of their Championship games this season but could climb off the foot of the table with victory over The Tigers.
Hull boss Phil Brown has doubts over strike duo Caleb Folan (foot) and Dean Windass (calf) ahead of the trip to Hillsborough.
Goalkeeper Matt Duke is also doubtful with a thigh strain, while Ryan France, Nick Barmby, Sam Collins and John Welsh remain sidelined.

Laws relief at first points
Quote:
Brian Laws expressed his relief as Sheffield Wednesday secured their first points of the season against Hull City.
The Owls were pointless six games into the new Championship season, but ended their dismal run against The Tigers at Hillsborough.
Francis Jeffers scored the only goal of the game in a 1-0 win and now Laws is hoping the players can build on the success.
"I'm emotionally drained and gave my players a right rollicking after the game for putting me through this agony," Laws stated.
"It's a great relief and it's been a long time coming. We needed bravery out there and a bit of calm and this had all the ingredients.
"There's been a millstone around our necks which has been getting heavier - but it showed morale in the camp is still there.
"It's the worst record in the history of the club and who wants to be associated with that? But that will go a long way to building confidence."
Difference
Phil Brown felt there was not a lot between the sides and that the East Yorkshire side deserved something from the contest.
"The difference between the two teams was the quality of the strike," said Brown. "Francis Jeffers showed a bit of Premiership quality with the finish.
"I didn't think we deserved to be down at half-time. Did we deserve to lose the game? We deserved to get something from the game.
"But I asked for ruthlessness and we didn't get it. Defensively, we deserved something form the game but we can't always rely on that.
"We had a lot of good possession and opportunities in the final third but didn't produce."

Laws has Owls backing
Quote:
Brian Laws insists he has not been given a timescale to turn Sheffield Wednesday's season around.
The Owls lost their opening six Championship games and reports suggested Laws had just a few more matches to save his job.
Francis Jeffers' goal against Hull City on Saturday snapped the club's losing sequence and Laws feels he has the backing of the Hillsborough hierarchy.
"There's going to come a time when you are going to be under pressure, we all are," Laws told Sky Sports News.
Moral support
"Me, in particular, I know that. When you've lost six games on the bounce, not many managers have survived that, but I've had a good discussion with the chairman and the board.
"They have given me no indication whatsoever that there was a timescale on it. They give me good moral support and that's what I needed to hear."
Laws feels that the weekend's 1-0 win over Hull has quickly had an impact on the mood within the Wednesday camp.
He added: "All of a sudden, the atmosphere within the camp has changed - that's just relief.
"They may go out there now and play the constructive football, and attractive football, that we're capable of."

Debt-ridden Sheffield Wednesday have dismissed suggestions they could go down the administration route like Yorkshire rivals Leeds. Takeover talks for the Championship club have taken place with former Everton director Paul Gregg and Chinese businessman Carson Yeung, but failed to reach fruition. This has led to rumours that chairman Dave Allen could put the club - which has debts of £20million - into administration, like Leeds. But Owls' chief executive Kaven Walker has dismissed such suggestion, saying casino boss Allen would not entertain this course of action.

Sheffield Wednesday v Leicester match preview
Quote:
Jermaine Johnson will sit out the visit of Leicester following his sending off against Watford.
Brian Laws has a number of injury worries with the likes of Francis Jeffers, Steve Watson, Wade Small, Frank Simek all doubtful.
Lowly Leicester go in search of only their second league win of the campaign at Hillsborough.
Captain Stephen Clemence (calf) is a doubt. Andy King will continue to deputise should the midfielder miss out.

Sheffield Wednesday 0-2 Leicester
Gary Megson grabbed his first league win since taking charge of Leicester with a 2-0 success at lowly Sheffield Wednesday. The game was decided in the opening 15 minutes as the home side fell asleep at two set-pieces. The first came after seven minutes when Gareth McAuley headed home. A carbon-copy of the first came moments later when Partrick Kisnorbo provided the finish.

Laws won't walk away
Quote:
Sheffield Wednesday boss Brian Laws has no intention of quitting The Owls following their 2-0 defeat to Leicester at Hillsborough.
Early goals from Gareth McAuley and Patrick Kisnorbo moved Leicester away from the drop zone, while The Owls remain second from bottom.
Despite suffering an eighth defeat from 10 league outings, Laws is backing his ability to turn around the South Yorkshire side's season.
Pressure
"I think all managers are always under pressure as it's a results-based business, and everybody will look at every club that is not doing well and will put the manager under pressure," Laws explained.
"I can't do anything about that. What we will do is work as hard as we've ever done before to put that right - the only time it changes is when the chairman does the changing.
"I was good enough last year and I'll be good enough this year."
Supporter
Leicester boss Gary Megson played over 200 times for The Owls and is a big fan of the club, however, he was pleased to come away from Hillsborough with the points.
"I've been here for the last 10 years, I've always kept my base in Sheffield, I was coming here when I was four of five years old, watching my Dad play," said Megson.
"I still live in the city and consider myself a Wednesday supporter, but it's purely and simply about doing a job for the club that employs me and it's a great result for me and a great result for the club."

Sheffield Wednesday 1 Scunthorpe 2
The Owls failed to build on the weekend win at Stoke by losing at home to local rivals Scunthorpe. Deon Burton's penalty fired the home side in front, but a Wednesday old-boy returned to haunt his former club. Martin Paterson bagged a brace before half-time as The Iron left Hillsborough will all three points.

Sheffield Wednesday 2 Blackpool 1
Sheffield Wednesday came from behind to ease the pressure on under-fire manager Brian Laws with a vital victory. Wesley Hoolahan opened the scoring in the 34th minute, producing an impressive piece of skill to earn a yard of space in the area before slotting home. But, moments after Laws had been jeered for replacing Akpo Sodje with Deon Burton, Marcus Tudgay headed the O | | | |
