Robson reveals Beattie bid
Quote:
Sheffield United manager Bryan Robson has made an offer for Everton striker James Beattie.
Beattie fell down the pecking order at Goodison Park last season due to the emergence of youngsters James Vaughan and Victor Anichebe.
Robson is hoping to convince Beattie to help The Blades in their push for promotion from the Championship and has submitted a formal bid.
He is also looking to push through another deal in the next couple of days.
"We have put a bid in to Everton and it is one of those situations now where we just have to wait and see," Robson told Sky Sports News.
"If I can persuade the lad to take the drop, hopefully just for one season, I think James Beattie would be a really good signing for us.
"I've got a couple of things in the pipeline which are very close.
"Hopefully over the next 48 hours we can move further forward and make a couple of players Sheffield United players."
Though he is confident one or two more new faces will arrive at Bramall Lane, Robson has reiterated that there is now very little chance of Celtic midfielder Thomas Gravesen signing for Sheffield United.
He admitted: "I wouldn't have thought that deal will happen. I did make an enquiry but I think that's probably dead now."

Sheffield Utd move for Birmingham's Vine
Quote:
Sheffield United boss Bryan Robson is chasing Birmingham City striker Rowan Vine.
Robbo believes the talented ex-Luton forward could be the man to fire them to promotion. West Brom boss Tony Mowbray is also interested and Brum chief Steve Bruce is willing to let him go.

Carney wings in for Blades talks
Quote:
Sheffield United have been granted permission to hold talks with Australian winger David Carney.
Sydney FC have given Carney the go-ahead to travel to England to discuss a move to Bramall Lane.
Blades plc chairman Kevin McCabe confirmed the Australia international is a target for Bryan Robson and believes the player will be impressed with what the Championship club have to offer.
"I expect Carney is on a plane winging to England," McCabe told the Sheffield Star. "I would say he is one of the players we are interested in.
"While we've not signed him yet, he'd love Sheffield United.
"We are a great club, we are the world's oldest United and people forget that. Not Man Utd, but Sheffield United."
Carney recently signed a new contract with Sydney and Sheffield Wednesday were warned off making a bid.
But Sydney chief executive George Perry has confirmed The Blades have made a formal approach for Carney.
Perry said: "We've given Carney permission to fly to England for talks with the Sheffield United management after having received a formal request from The Blades."

Clarke interests Robson
Quote:
Sheffield United boss Bryan Robson has confirmed that he is interested in signing Newry City captain Richard Clarke.
The Northern Ireland U21 international featured for the Blades in their friendly against Portadown on Saturday and impressed Robson.
"I thought Clarke did very well because it is very difficult for a young lad to go in cold in such a game," Robson told the club's website.
"He moved round the pitch well and I will talk to the lad and his manager but there is plenty of other interest in him from England."

Blades move 'excites' Beattie
Quote:
James Beattie is 'excited' by Bryan Robson's plans for Sheffield United after completing his move to Bramall Lane.
The former England international has joined The Blades in a £4million deal from Everton after struggling for first-team football last season.
He was persuaded to drop down to the Championship by Robson and is looking forward to playing again on a regular basis.
"I've obviously met the manager and the chairman, and they outlined the plans for the club for the next few years," Beattie told Sky Sports News.
"The ambition and everything they've shown, and what they said to me, made me want to be a part of it.
"It was hard and it was a difficult decision, but the manager has been a legend in the game.
Freeze-out
"He knew my thoughts and what I was thinking, and he talked me through it, and when he outlined his plans for the club it excited me."
Beattie is aware he is not guaranteed a starting spot with his new club, but is determined to play a role in helping The Blades back into the Premier League.
He added: "It will be a nice change because last year was a bit of a freeze-out for myself.
"I will have to work hard for my place, but I'm excited by playing a few more games this year.
"We have a hard season ahead of us trying to get back up in the Premiership where we belong."

Gerrard rejoins Blades
Quote:
Sheffield United have have re-signed goalkeeper Paul Gerrard after he was released at the end of last season.
The former Oldham and Everton goalkeeper has signed a 12-month deal at Bramall Lane.
The 33-year-old will provide cover for Blades manager Bryan Robson's first-choice pair Paddy Kenny and Ian Bennett.
Gerrard spent last season on a season-long loan deal after leaving Nottingham Forest.
Gerrard made two Premier League starts for the Blades last season and also started in the 3-0 home FA Cup defeat to Swansea.

Sheff Utd v Colchester Preview
Quote:
Bryan Robson is sweating over captain Chris Morgan's fitness for his first game in charge of Sheffield United against Colchester.
Striker Rob Hulse is still recovering from a broken leg so summer signings James Beattie and Billy Sharp should form The Blades' strike partnership.
Gary Naysmith, Lee Hendrie and David Carney are also set to make their United debuts.
A slight calf injury will restrict Teddy Sheringham to a bench role as he starts the 24th season of his career at Colchester.
Kevin Watson is struggling with an Achilles problem, and defender Bela Balogh is definitely out with a broken nose.
