Cardiff City are taking goalkeeper Ross Turnbull on a season's long loan from Premiership side Middlesbrough.

The 22-year-old, 6ft 4ins stopper has made two Premiership appearances and has also had loan spells at Darlington, Barnsley, Bradford and Crewe.

New Cardiff deal for Jones

Dave Jones has signed a new contract to extend his tenure as Cardiff City manager.

The former Wolves boss has spent two years in charge at Ninian Park and has now agreed an extension.

Though the length of the new deal has not been disclosed, Jones outlined his determination to 'finish the job I started'.

"Step back and take a look at how things have changed in two years," Jones told the South Wales Echo. "It's like a runaway horse - and we will continue to press on.

"Everything I felt needed changing has either changed already or is in the process of changing. That goes from nutrition for the players and the way we train to a new stadium and training ground.

"When I first came here it was clear we had to upgrade everything - the whole lot.

"When I look at how things were I can honestly say 'well done' to Lennie Lawrence and other managers before me. For what they had to work with, they did a good job.

"People look in from the outside and think 'Cardiff City haven't been promoted so they must be failing'. They simply don't understand what needed to be done here and what has been done.

"I have signed my new contract and I am committed to finishing the job I started here."

In addition to his new contract as manager, Jones has also bought shares in the Championship club.

Cardiff v Stoke Preview

Robbie Fowler is a doubt to make his Cardiff debut against Stoke on Saturday.

The former Liverpool striker joined The Bluebirds over the summer but has been struggling with a thigh injury.

Summer signing Steve MacLean and on-loan goalkeeper Ross Turnbull should both start.

Manchester United youngster Ryan Shawcross goes straight into the Stoke squad for the Cardiff game after joining on loan.

Richard Cresswell, Stephen Wright and Jon Parkin could also feature for the first time for The Potters.

Jimmy agrees Cardiff deal

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink is undergoing a medical at Cardiff before putting pen-to-paper on a contract at Ninian Park.

The 35-year-old striker is a free agent after being released by Charlton at the end of last season.

Hasselbaink had looked set to join Leicester earlier this week before the move fell through and now the Dutchman has agreed to switch to Cardiff.

The Bluebirds have offered the former Leeds and Chelsea hit-man an initial one-year contract, with the option for a second season.

"Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink will have a medical today and then sign his contract," chairman Peter Ridsdale told the South Wales Echo.

"Jimmy showed Dave Jones and I he is enthusiastic and hungry to get started."

Hasselbaink will link up with Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler, as he looks to fire Cardiff to promotion from the Championship.

Both front-men are among the Premier League's top-ten all-time leading goalscorers.

Strike duo Robbie Fowler and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink - who have scored a combined total of 285 Premier League goals - are set to be handed their debuts by Cardiff.

Dave Jones' only injury absentee is experienced midfielder Ricky Scimeca, although he is expected to return to training in the near future.

Coventry defender Colin Hawkins is facing three weeks on the sidelines after suffering a torn groin muscle in training ahead of last weekend's draw against Hull.

Veteran midfielder Michael Hughes is struggling with a thigh strain, experienced central defender Robert Page is doubtful because of a minor knock and fellow defender David McNamee is ruled out with a calf injury.
