Sheffield United 1 Southampton 2
Sheffield United took just 12 minutes to continue their record of scoring in every home game when Keith Gillespie cut in from the right and fired home, but Grzegorz Rasiak equalised just seven minutes later. Saints then took the lead when Jhon Viafara (31) toe-poked home after Paddy Kenny fumbled.

Duo Keith Gillespie and Derek Geary are set to be sidelined for a few weeks due to injury. Geary did not feature in the 3-3 draw with Cardiff on Tuesday and Bryan Robson has revealed he will undergo surgery on his troublesome knee later this week. Gillespie was forced off the pitch against Cardiff with a hamstring strain and Robson admits he is growing frustrated by the number of injuries at Bramall Lane.

The appearance of the Brazil legend is part of the South Yorkshire club's bid to improve their ties with Sao Paulo. Sheffield United are poised to complete the loan signing of defender Phil Bardsley from Manchester United. With full-back Derek Geary ruled out for up to six weeks, manager Bryan Robson has acted quickly to help fill the void. Following The Red Devils' surprise Carling Cup exit at the hands of Coventry, Sir Alex Ferguson conceded his younger players would be departing on loan to retain their match sharpness. Robson, who is hoping Bardsley's arrival will allow Gary Cahill and Leigh Bromby to play in the middle of his defence, is not ruling out making the full-back's move a permanent switch.

Speculation that Sheffield United are on the verge of signing highly-rated Sydney FC midfielder Mark Milligan has been rubbished by the player's agent. The Blades manager Bryan Robson was thought to be targeting a move for Milligan but the player's agent, Richard Briggs, has dismissed the rumour. According to Briggs, Milligan is not interested in an immediate move to England and is focused on staying settled in Australia.

Sheffield United v Preston match preview
Quote:
Two surprise strugglers meet at Bramall Lane, in a game which will likely mark Phil Bardsley's debut following a loan move from Manchester United.
Bryan Robson is sweating on the fitness of Lee Hendrie and Gary Naysmith and although Keith Gillespie will probably be passed fit, Nick Montgomery, Derek Geary and Rob Hulse remain sidelined.
Paul Simpson is waiting on news of Callum Davidson's fitness after he twisted his knee but is able to welcome Matt Hill back into the fold.
Neil Mellor netted a hat-trick for the reserves in midweek and is in contention to start, as is Paul McKenna - for the first time in eight months - following a serious knee injury.
