Burnley v West Bromwich Preview

Robbie Blake should begin his second stint at Burnley when The Clarets welcome West Brom to Turf Moor.

Stephen Jordan, Gabor Kiraly and Besart Berisha are all in Steve Cotterill's squad for the Championship opener.

West Brom's Slovenian star Robert Koren will be forced to sit out the next month because of a freak eye injury.

Ellington in quit threat

Nathan Ellington has threatened to quit West Brom if he is not given a chance to start.

The striker was on the bench at Burnley on Saturday and played only the final 20 minutes for Tony Mowbray's side.

Ellington had hoped to see regular playing time for The Baggies this season after Diomansy Kamara joined Fulham over the summer.

He was disappointed to be only a substitute against Burnley and could ask to leave if his situation does not change.

"I don't know if I'll get a starting position - I guess it all depends on if the manager can see all the hard work I'm putting in," Ellington said in The Sun.

"I don't know what I'm going to do to get in the team. Do I have to score 10 goals when I come on as sub or have five assists?

"I know it was only the first game of the season but I'm disappointed that I didn't play because I know I can score goals at this level.

"If I don't get the games or get to play here, I may have to move somewhere where I will be able to play regularly."

Brunt set for Baggies talks

Sheffield Wednesday have given permission for West Brom to speak to Chris Brunt about a possible move to The Hawthorns.

The Hillsborough club agreed the move after their Championship rivals matched the South Yorkshire side's valuation for the 22-year-old winger.

The Northern Ireland international is being hotly tipped to leave The Owls after refusing a lucrative contract extension.

"West Bromwich Albion have matched our valuation for Chris Brunt," explained Wednesday's chief executive Kaven Walker on the club's official website.

"We have always said that if we receive a bid for a player which matches our valuation we will allow them to speak to the respective club."

Fulham tried to sign Brunt earlier this summer, but Wednesday rejected the Premier League side's bid.

Baggies boss Tony Mowbray is said to be a big admirer of the left-sided midfielder and is keen to bolster his squad after losing a number of top stars following their failure to win promotion last term.

Ishmael Miller could make his West Brom debut, but Richard Chaplow is doubtful with a foot injury.

New signing Chris Brunt will miss the game through suspension after receiving a red card for Sheffield Wednesday in pre-season.

Preston have made a disappointing start to the new season and Paul Simpson could swing the axe following the Carling Cup defeat to Football League new boys Morecambe.

West Brom have signed Polish striker Bartosz Slusarski from Groclin Dyskobolia. Slusarski has inked a two-year deal with the option of another 12 months at The Hawthorns after passing a medical and agreeing personal terms. Baggies boss Tony Mowbray decided to pay £680,000 for the 25-year-old after he impressed on trial at the club and he believes he will be a valuable addition to his squad.
