Default Hull agree fee for Brown

Quote:
Colchester United have accepted an offer from Hull City for want-away defender Wayne Brown.

The 29-year-old admitted earlier this week that he is 'desperate' to leave Layer Road and felt he was in limbo due to Colchester's reluctance to sell.

Brown had demanded the chance to talk to Hull and The U's have now grudgingly accepted an offer from their Championship rivals.

Explaining the reasons for agreeing a fee with The Tigers, Colchester admit it would be futile trying to keep the player at the club.

"We were very keen to hold onto Wayne Brown, and discussions were taking place in terms of improving and extending his current contract," read a statement on the club's official website.

"However, it became clear that the player's heart was set on a move away from Colchester United.

"It remains the case that we were adamant that a move would not take place unless it was completely in the best interests of the club. We feel that we are now at that point and we have agreed a fee with Hull City for Wayne's services.

"We feel there is a very positive attitude amongst the Layer Road squad and the players are all keen to give 100 per cent commitment and effort for the good of the club.

"It has now reached the stage where we feel this is not something that Wayne could give by seeing out the remainder of his contracted time with the club.

"The transfer fee received upon completion of Wayne's transfer will certainly be utilised in our continued effort to build on our current squad and an obvious priority now is replacing Wayne in central defence."

Tigers complete Brown swoop

Quote:
Hull City have wrapped up the £450,000 capture of Colchester United defender Wayne Brown.

The former Ipswich and Watford man has penned a three-year deal with The Tigers after passing a routine medical.

The move ends weeks of speculation over Brown's future and the 29-year-old is now looking forward to linking-up his new team-mates.

"The last two-and-a-half weeks have been a frustrating time for myself," he told the club's official website.

"Obviously I wanted to get here at the earliest opportunity and I was hoping the deal would be sorted before the lads went away to Italy.

"But we had to be patient. Obviously I'm delighted the move has finally come about and I can't wait to get started at training on Monday."
