The league is still close!
CITY boss Nigel Worthington was today keeping one eye firmly fixed on Division One's chasing promotion pack and setting no store whatever by his side's current nine-point cushion over third-placed Wigan.
"If you look at that group of potential challengers it hasn't changed over recent weeks - in fact, its even been added to," said Worthington, as he ran through a lengthy list of runners and riders for the first division promotion chase.
"Crystal Palace are coming through, so are West Ham and Wigan. Sunderland still have a game in hand. West Brom and Sheffield United, they're still strong," added Worthington, with the Canaries due to entertain both the Hammers and the Baggies within the next three weeks - all with a trip to the Stadium of Light, Sunderland, sandwiched between.
City might now be the bookies' favourites for the first division title, but that cut little ice with the manager at Colney this morning.
"Yes, they're all big games, but the big games start on Saturday at Coventry City," said Worthington, as he laid out a new set of goals for the final 16 games of a potentially famous season.
"I think you'd be looking to get 75 to 76 points for the play-offs, and 89 to 90 to be guaranteed promotion," said Worthington. "But it's all about ourselves and the one thing that we have to do over the next 16 games is to work as hard as we have done at any time in the past three years. If there's one thing that we have had in that time it's a high work ethic and that's what we need now - even to step it up again in games."
The Canary boss was also anxious to pay tribute to the supporters' role of late as another 3,000-strong Yellow and Green Army prepares for the trip to Highfield Road.
"The support we've been getting is phenomenal and they've been a big help," said the City chief. "The fact that they've been patient and they know that we're not going to win games in the first 45 minutes - that it might take the full 90 minutes - has been a big help."
shows you that the league is still tightly contested!
