Default Tigers set for Juninho talks

Quote:
Skysports.com can confirm Hull are set to hold talks with Juninho over a possible move to The KC stadium.

Hull are lining up an ambitious swoop for the former Middlesbrough hero as they look to signal their intent in the Championship under new owner Paul Duffen.

Juninho is looking for a new club after leaving Flamengo last month and he is considering a return to England.

The Brazilian's agent Jonathan Hassall confirmed Juninho was set to meet Hull to discuss the possibility of moving back to England.

"It is true that we are planning to meet Hull to have talks over a move," Hassall told skysports.com

"Juninho is expected to fly into the country in the next 48 hours and we will then meet with Hull.

"We will go to see what Hull have got to say and what they have on offer.

"Juninho is keen on a move back to England as his heart has always been in England."

Hull could face a fight to sign the World Cup winner with clubs in Brazil and Qatar also chasing the diminutive playmaker.

"Juninho has got offers from other clubs in Brazil as well as other clubs on the continent and we will wait and see what is the best for him," added Hassall.
I thought he no longer played football...

Hull to reveal new player

Quote:
Hull are expected to announce a new signing on Friday with manager Phil Brown revealing the club are close to finalising other deals.

City have called a press conference for 11am at the KC Stadium where Brown will be unveiling his latest addition to the squad.

The Tigers have been linked with a move for former Middlesbrough star Juninho but a deal for the Brazilian, who was released by Flamengo last season, would take longer to finalise.

Brown has also been targeting Sheffield United centre-half Chris Lucketti, Richard Garcia, Bryan Hughes and Henrik Pedersen.

"We've got a lot of business in the top drawer, which is about 90 to 95 per cent done, but I won't be announcing anything until the deals are 100 per cent completed," he said.

Hughes heads to Hull

Quote:
Bryan Hughes has joined Hull City on a free transfer after rejecting a new contract at Charlton Athletic.

The experienced midfielder was offered a deal to stay at the Valley following the club's relegation from the Premier League.

But Hughes has opted to sign a three-year contract at Hull and revealed he also had the chance to join clubs in the top flight.

"I had a number of teams get in contact with myself, Premiership and Championship sides, so I had a lot to consider really," Hughes told the club's official website.

"I got a phone call off the manager asking what my situation was with Charlton because I was coming to the end of my contract and it all went from there.

"When I spoke to the manager and chairman here, I knew there was only one place this club is going and that's forward. So, obviously, I'm happy to get on board and try to help this club achieve things."

Hughes feels Phil Brown's side have the potential to earn promotion to the Premier League, particularly with the backing of new chairman Paul Duffen.

He added: "I was impressed by their ambition and where they want this club to go.

"Charlton offered me a new contract, but as I say, I had a lot to think about and see what my options were.

"The chairman talked about wanting to be in the Premiership in three years, but with the people the club are trying to bring in, who says we can't do that before three years."

Brown hopes for Juninho deal

Quote:
Phil Brown feels Hull City have a 'realistic' chance of signing Brazilian veteran Juninho.

The former Middlesbrough favourite is heading to England to hold talks with the Championship club over the weekend.

Juninho is available on a free transfer after recently leaving Flamengo and is keen on a return to English football.

Hull boss Brown plans to speak to the 34-year-old in the coming days and believes the club are not aiming too high in trying to strike a deal with Juninho.

"Having spoken at length with the agent who actually brought Juninho to the country last time, and for his successful time at Middlesbrough, when he made reference to the capability of bringing Juninho back, I thought maybe Hull City might just attract him," Brown told Sky Sports News.

"The fact we are a club on the up, a club with ambition and in a similar situation to Middlesbrough when we he went there.

"I hope that ambitious sales pitch can maybe attract Juninho to the football club.

"It's realistic. There's an opportunity for me to meet with the wee man this weekend.

"I hope we can take talks as far as we possibly can."

Juninho hooked by Tigers intent

Quote:
The ambition and intent shown by Hull City owner Paul Duffen and manager Phil Brown looks set to swing Juninho's decision on his future in The Championship side's favour.

Juninho's agent, Jonathon Hassall, has revealed that the Brazilian midfielder sees similarities between the ambition that persuaded him to sign for Middlesbrough in 1995, with that of The KC Stadium outfit.

Duffen has previously revealed that it is his intention to guide Hull into The Premier League within three years, and after securing the signatures of Bryan Hughes and Richard Garcia, it appears that the side are ready to climb up the league.

34-year-old Juninho is now tipped to sign on and Hassall says Juninho still wants to play in the top flight.

"Juninho still has a burning ambition to play in the top flight, because he could still do a job there, so if he was going to come to The Championship, then it needs to be a club with ambition to get promoted," said Hassall.

"Hull have got good facilities and a great fan base, and it's a similar scenario to when Juninho first went to Middlesbrough.

"The potential to achieve something similar [to Boro] is clearly there."

Since meeting the Hull management, Juninho has flown back to Brazil, whilst Hassall is set to continue negotiations on behalf of the player.

"Juninho was impressed with what Phil (Brown) had to say and they seemed to share the same philosophies about the game," he continued.

"That's important, because he needs to know where his role would be in the team.

"Obviously no-one has a right to start every game, but it is important that he plays for somebody who plays football in the right way.

"Again, Hull seem to fit the bill in that respect."

Hassall continued to reveal that the midfielder will make a decision on his future in the near future, with a final answer expected to be provided by the end of the week.
