Kevin Nicholls has agreed to join Preston from Leeds.
However, the move cannot be finalised until Leeds' takeover is completed next month.
Nicholls has been out of favour at Leeds since March after a bust-up with manager Dennis Wise.
The former Luton midfielder has agreed terms with Preston and he will officially sign for the club once Leeds' transfer embargo is lifted on 3rd July.
North End boss Paul Simpson was delighted to agree a deal with Nicholls.
"I'm delighted. He's a player who I have been trying to bring here for a while," Simpson told the club's official website.
"I tried to get him in January, we then tried to get him in before the loan window but unfortunately that didn't happen.
"Leeds wouldn't allow it to happen so it fell through. I've continued to keep my eye on the situation and I'm delighted that it looks like it is all resolved now."
