Arrow Foxes swoop for free frontman Cort

Leicester have signed former £7million striker Carl Cort on a free transfer following his release by Championship rivals Wolves.

The former Newcastle man joins the Foxes on a two-year contract and becomes Martin Allen's fourth signing of the week - following the captures of Bruno N'Gotty, Jimmy Nielsen and Ricky Sappleton.

And Allen revealed he had beaten off competition from a number of clubs to sign 29-year-old Cort.

He said: "Carl has quality and I am delighted he has chosen us over four other clubs, including one from the Premiership.

"I believe I am going to get the best out of him. I am going to work him hard and push him to maximise his ability. Then the ball is in his court."

Chairman Milan Mandaric added: "I am delighted that we have attracted a player of Carl's calibre to the club.

"He met the sole criteria of what this club is all about."

Cort was released by Wolves at the end of last season after scoring 31 goals in 94 appearances during a spell marred by injury at Molineux.

I think Leicester have done a great deal if he stays fit to play for them...

He's not that good. He is totally frustrating to watch, and having had the pleasure of watching Andy Keogh week in, week out for five months I can confirm Carl Cort isn't the most skillful...

However if used correctly - with a smaller, faster striker (Hume I suppose?) he can get about 15 goals a season in this division. Feed him the crosses and he'll nod them in all day long. Also good at winning flick ons.

Other than that his knee is made of glass, will probably be on big wages and is a bit of a bambi on ice.
