Exclamation Jones: Chopra going nowhere

Cardiff boss Dave Jones has slammed media reports suggesting a bidding war for top scorer Michael Chopra.

National newspaper reports suggest Premiership clubs are ready to instigate bids of close to £4million for the former Newcastle marksman.

"I read one story that said Everton and Manchester City are conducting a bidding war over Michael (Chopra)," said Jones.

"I don't know who they are in a bidding war with but it's not Cardiff City. We've not had an approach from either of them - or any other club.

"Michael is a Cardiff City player, he has just signed a new contract and clearly we want him to stay."

Chopra, who will miss Cardiff's final two games because of suspension, has scored 22 league goals this season following his £500,000 move from St James' Park last summer.

Those who think he is good enough for Premiership should watch his background from his days in Newcastle...He's not a better player from that time.

He played 7 full games for Newcastle in the four years that he was there after coming through the ranks as a trainee. It's unfair and a little ignorant to cast judgement on a players ability to perform at the highest level when he was essentially never given the chance to do so. He's only 23 years old for fucks sake. He's learnt a lot this past season and in my estimation would be a handful at any level. He wouldn't set the premiership on fire but he'd be a an asset.

One thing's for sure and that's that Newcastle must have been cursing the fact that they sold him at all in hindsight and certainly for as little money as they did. Chopra's mishandling is just symptomatic of the big fucking mess that is Newcastle United Football Club.
