Default Currie set for Coventry

Quote:
Ipswich Town midfielder Darren Currie has joined Coventry City on loan with a view to a permanent deal in the transfer window.

The 32-year-old, who joined Ipswich from Brighton for £250,000 in 2004 after just four months on the south coast, had been struggling to break into the first team this season.

With Gavin Williams and Owen Garvan due to return from injury soon and Accrington Stanley's Gray Roberts having made a good impression during his loan spell, Currie felt it was the right time to establish himself elsewhere.

The move is a major boon for Coventry boss Micky Adams, who had made Currie his number one target ahead of Thursday's deadline for loan signings, and Ipswich manager Jim Magilton is happy to let him go.

"Darren is joining Coventry on loan until January and then we'll see what develops from there," Magilton told Ipswich's official website.

"I have spoken to Darren throughout the season and I know that he wants to be playing regular first-team football.

"I can fully understand that and wasn't any different as a player myself, but I told Darren that I couldn't guarantee him a place in the side.

"We've got players coming back from injury and Gary Roberts has come into the side and done well, so I told him that I wouldn't stand in his way if he wanted to go out on loan.

"He goes to Coventry with our best wishes."

Slow winger woooooah
Slow winger woooooah
His name is Darren Currie
He's never in a hurry

Still a great passer and cross of the ball, but no pace and no ability to tackle, his days were numbered at Town.
