Default Potters land Black Cat

Quote:
Sunderland midfielder Liam Lawrence has joined Championship rivals Stoke City on loan until January.

The former Mansfield Town wide man arrived at The Stadium of Light in 2004 and was part of the side that won the Championship title in his first season in the North East.

Lawrence played for Sunderland in The Premiership under Mick McCarthy, but under Roy Keane's tenure, has fallen down the Irishman's pecking order.

The 24-year-old has now decided to try his hand elsewhere, having moved to The Potters until January with a view to a permanent deal, when the transfer window reopens.

Stoke recently allowed Luke Chadwick to make a similar move to Norwich City and it would appear they have moved quickly to fill the void left by the former Manchester United man's departure.

I can't understand why he isn't good enough to play for Black Cats any longer.I thought he was one of Sunderland's best players when they played in the Premiership.

I think the signing of Lawrence is an indication of where the club are trying to go and what we're trying to achieve. He's been impressive when i've watched him on previous occasions, and despite not having pace in abundence has the ability to put in quality crosses. Although, the lack of pace is a cause for concern as we aren't a side recognised for the amount of pace throughout the side. Certainly a more than adequate replacement for Luke Chadwick, who despite getting into decent crossing positions on a regular basis, failed to deliver telling crosses often enough. Hopefully, Lawrence will.
