Rams slam Smith rumours
Derby County manager Billy Davies has dismissed reports linking Rams forward Tommy Smith with Championship rivals Leeds United and Southampton.
The 26-year-old was reported to have turned down a contract offer at Pride Park, but Davies says that that is not the case.
He told the Evening Telegraph: "We are very keen to keep Tommy here. I want him to stay and I've told him that.
"Tommy is very much in our plans for the future and we have no intention of letting him go.
"He is one of the players we want to build a team around because of his quality.
"We want to extend his contract and convince him that the club is changing and heading in the right direction.
"We want him to be part of the future of this club. He has not turned down a new deal because no figures or length of contract have been mentioned."
