Hatters reject double deal
Luton Town have dismissed a joint bid from Leeds United for captain Kevin Nicholls and star striker Steve Howard.
The two players were instrumental in The Hatters' fine campaign in The Championship last season, and have attracted considerable interest over the summer.
Kevin Blackwell's Yorkshire giants had made a joint approach for two of Luton's crown jewels, reportedly in the region of £700,000, but Hatters boss Mike Newell has forcefully rebuffed their advances.
With Nicholls acting as a driving force in midfield and Howard reaching treble figures for his Luton career last season, Newell would be loath to lose either of the stars and has indicated the Leeds offer is well below what the Bedfordshire outfit value the duo at.
Luton have been quiet in the transfer market so far this summer and will be desperate to keep hold of their star names if they are to replicate last season's success, but interest continues to grow in both players.
Skipper Nicholls has also reportedly been the subject of a £400,000 bid from Wolverhampton Wanderers, whilst Norwich boss Nigel Worthington has admitted The Canaries have also tabled a bid for burly striker Howard.

Wouldn't be terrible to sell Howard, he's great but he hasn't got much football left in him.

We've bid 400k for Nicholls...some papers say it's been rejected, however the local paper says its been accepted and he was set to join us with Hoddle in charge, now he is waiting to see who we'll bring in.
Bit confusing seeing as we have no manager! Would love it to happen anyway.

Nicholls is a thick thug, I despise him more than any other scummer, but he is a half-decent player as well, I hope you sign him to take him off their hands.
