Birchall attracting interest
Quote:
Sheffield United have made a £400,000 bid for Port Vale's Trinidad & Tobago star Chris Birchall.
The World Cup hero has been linked with several clubs since his World Cup heroics, although Norwich boss Nigel Worthington on Wednesday denied they are in the race to sign the 22-year-old.
Now Neil Warnock has firmed up his interest with a bid, as he feels the youngster has a future at the top level.
Valiants boss Martin Foyle has previously used Birchall as a winger but he shone in Germany with Trinidad & Tobago coach Leo Beenhakker deploying him in central midfield.
He was even considered by many to be the best player on the field when the Soca Warriors faced England, and it was that performance that convinced Warnock to make a move.
Ipswich boss Jim Magilton has also confimed his admiration for Birchall, admitting the Tractor Boys are keeping tabs on the youngster.
He told the Stoke Sentinel: "We have been looking at Chris's situation, but have not had any conversations with him, his agent or Port Vale.
"The Vale manager Martin Foyle is an old friend of mine from our days at Oxford, but I have not spoken to him about Chris.
"Chris has done very well, but it would be a complication with his international commitments for Trinidad and Tobago, so there are many things to consider."
