Default Brightons new stadium delayed

Brighton have been forced to put back the opening of their planned new stadium by a year, because of a legal challenge by Lewes District Council.

"Because of the challenge, we have had to delay the construction," Seagulls chief executive Martin Perry explained.

"Therefore, the completion will be delayed by a year until the start of the 2009/10 season. The Championship club's plans for a 23,000-seater ground at Falmer had been approved by Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott on 28 October 2005.

Looks like it will be a quality away day once it is completed. Really nice stadium.

what a piss take. If I was a Brighton fan I would be well pissed off.

Brighton need this ground big time. There current one is a joke. They cant attract big crowds.

May sound silly but I bet players dont want to play at that dump either.

If they are to have a good future this new ground is key.

Brighton are probably the unluckiest club in Britain (and maybe the world)

Chairman sells their old ground to build a supermarket, then they have to play 70 miles away in Gillingham for 2 years, then they got told that they were temporarily playing at the Withdean, still there after 8 years.

I was delighted for them when they finally got planning permission for Falmer, will be a great stadium as well.
