Lightbulb Thompson eyes top-six spot

Cardiff striker Stevie Thompson knows his side face an uphill struggle to clinch a Championship play-off place but he insists his team-mates are under no pressure.

The Bluebirds have proved their Championship credentials this season with a number of surprising results, including wins over the likes of Southampton, Leeds United and Crystal Palace and a place in the top six remains within reach.

"I don't think that there's any pressure on us," Thompson told the club's official website. "The team has done really well to get here in the first place, probably better than anyone would have thought.

"But to get into this position it would be nice if we could push on and get there (the play-offs).

"It's going to be really difficult now as we've dropped points when we could have won games.

"For us to do it now we are going to need to go on one hell of a run but it is still possible."

Our last four home games are Norwich, Sheffield United, Reading and QPR of which I only really fancy a win from QPR but Sheffield are shaky and you're never too sure which Norwich side is going to turn up.

We're equal on points to Preston who have three games in hand on us and a far easier run in and were the form team in the league prior to losing at the Madejski. We're not going to catch them.

Palace fucking up is our only realistic chance of finishing top six. We have five points to make up and they have a game in hand but they have a difficult run in and have been relatively poor away from home for the last few months.

At the end of the day at the start of the season with our losing players like Collins, Gabbidon and Kavanagh and with our financial difficulties championship survival looked unlikely so the fact that we're still now in the mix for a play-off place is fantastic for us. Taking six points from both Leeds and Stoke was a fucking bonus as well.

I know how it feels mate. I thought we were going down at the start of the season so I have nothing at all to complain about (apart from Jordan Stewart).

I was expecting mid-table shiteness, come december we were lookin' at relegation, now March we have a very very slim chance of the play-offs, unlikely to happen but it gives us something to play for till the end of the season.

Could be an important match on April 17th at the Vic. I think if Preston or Palarse slip up you might be able to make it.

Odds are it'll be over in 2 weeks, Preston and Palace away within 5 days.
