Leeds and Boro hunt Agathe

Championship high-flyers Leeds want to end Didier Agathe's Celtic misery - but face competition from Middlesbrough for his signature.

French winger Agathe was a firm favourite under Martin O'Neill at Parkhead - but has failed to impress current Hoops boss Gordon Strachan and is set to leave Scotland in January's transfer window.

Kevin Blackwell's Leeds are at the front of the queue to sign the 30-year-old wideman - but Boro have also expressed an interest in the player who is out of contract at the end of the season.

The Whites are sitting in fourth place in the Championship but need to claw back back an 11-point deficit on second-placed Sheffield United to seal automatic promotion - and Blackwell feels Agathe can provide more ammunition for his wealth of strikers at Elland Road.

Steve McClaren is also interested, though, as Boro have not won in five Premiership games and have slipped down to 13th place in the table - just six points above the dreaded dropzone.

Like Blackwell, the Boro chief also has an embarrassment of riches in attack but wants more creativity for the likes of Aiyegbeni Yakubu, Mark Viduka, Jimmy-Floyd Hasselbaink and Massimo Maccarone to feed off.
