Boothroyd joy at victory

Watford manager Adrian Boothroyd was thrilled after watching his side bounce back from their defeat to Burnley with a 3-0 win over Southampton.

The Hornets were thrashed 4-1 at Turf Moor in their previous match, but first-half strikes from Darius Henderson and Clarke Carlisle set them up for a win against the Saints, who were being managed by George Burley for the first time.

Burley's misery was compounded early in the second period when Tomasz Hajto put through his own net, but Boothroyd was delighted to get back to winning ways.

He said: "I think it was important that we laid the ghost to rest of last week when we were average and gave away a lot of silly goals.

"We played a good team with a good management team and it was a difficult game for us.

"They were obviously going to be up for it to prove to the new manager that they want to be in the team and I thought we coped very well with the start and went on to dominate the game."
