Post Walcott integral to Burley plans

New Southampton head coach George Burley has reassured fans that prodigy Theo Walcott is central to his plans and will not be leaving the club.
Chelsea and Arsenal have both been linked with moves for the 16-year-old striker in the January transfer window but Burley insists he is not for sale.

"I've met Theo's dad and he is pleased I'm there as I like working with young players," he told the club website.

"I've spoken to the chairman about it and Theo is going nowhere."

Burley has a reputation for developing young talent and he said he planned to continue that approach as Southampton try to lift themselves into the promotion race.

"I've brought a lot of young talent through and that's what I intend to do here," added the former Ipswich and Hearts manager.

"We have some good youngsters and need to bring them through and make the most of them.

"I've always believed that if they are good enough, then they are old enough and I wouldn't hesitate to throw them in. That's what I did at Ipswich and Derby."

He may or may not live up to his hype in years to come, but he didn''t look anywhere near as good a prospect as Macca or Ash looked at that age. I thought Joel Grant looked more assured TBH.

He's a youngster, so it's unfair to judge him on one game.

Great goal against the scum though wasn't it!
