Watford boss Adrian Boothroyd wants his team to copy the methods of high-flying Sheffield United and Reading.
The Hornets have made a solid start to the campaign and are sixth in the Championship after 15 matches - but Sheffield United lead the way with 37 points, three more than Steve Coppell's Reading.
Boothroyd said: "Sheffield United and Reading are able to grind out results by stopping the opposition from rallying.
"Killing off the game is something we need to learn how to do.
"I want us to copy the teams at the top, and add the good things they do to what already do well."
