Thumbs up Watford 3 Burnley 1

Controversy ruled in Watford's 3-1 victory over Burnley, with Hornets goalkeeper Ben Foster lucky to remain on the pitch after conceding a first half penalty.

Marlon King had already opened the scoring when Foster came out and felled Ade Akinbiyi but was not dismissed for a professional foul before Garreth O' Connor converted the resultant penalty.

A deflected Gavin Mahon shot restored Watford's lead, but Matthew Spring's debut goal came as Burnley keeper Brian Jensen was left prostrate on the ground injured.

King had already threatened for the hosts before another debutant, Malky Mackay's long ball put him clear and he slotted home with aplomb.

Foster appeared to have got the ball as he conceded the penalty, but referee Matt Messias should have dismissed the on-loan keeper after giving the foul. this was not a penalty and the ref obviously realised this and didnt send him of

Mahon was delighted when his speculative shot hit the back of Graham Branch in a highly makeshift Clarets defence, and looped over Jensen.

The second half saw Akinbiyi threaten for Burnley, but the scoring was wrapped up by Watford, with Jensen hurt on the edge of his box, when Spring fired home after Darius Henderson's pass.

woah springy springy

what a great game, great performance, fantastic attacking flair, 4th in the league

as for the referee, i have never seen a worse one, gives a peno that even the burnley fans didnt think was one, then he should in all honesty have blown up when henderson ko'd their keeper, but he didnt and we scored

we are going up, and the scum are finding that you have to win more than your first two games to stay up

Watford boss Adrian Boothroyd:
"We can look for excuses, we've got a lot of new faces and I accept that.
"But we are better than that and we've got to make sure we learn to nail teams down and punish them more severely."

he wants more goals lol you gotta love Aidy at the moment.

Why would he look for excuses in what was the best home performance in the league since Coventry 5-2?

I have just got back and what can i say.The ref was a totall w**ker.Watfords keeper should have definately been sent off.i thought it was a pen from where i were but i havent seen a replay to confirm but the ref gave the pen so he should have shown him the red card, but no not even a yellow. The third goal should have not been allowed. The rules are that if someone gets an injury to the head or neck play should be stopped immediately.Jenson was on the floor out of it for at least 20-30 seconds before Watford scored.Jenson was on the floor recieving treatment for at least 5 mins before being strechered off.But how much does the ref add on at the end,3 mins.Just got a txt from the club saying Jensen is now in hospital and in a bad way with injuries to his neck and spine..I would also like to say i didn't think our performance was that bad seeing as we had midfielders playing at right and left back, both our centre backs missing and a striker on the left wing

you need to see the replay. It was never a penalty, you will see on the replay I bet you. "stone cold" penalty, what kinda pr!ck is your manager. from our end foster clearly got the ball.

as for the 3rd goal its a bit 50/50. we just played on no whistle. We had a similar situation at your ground according to Aidy aswell. The two decision cancell each other out. The ref was a joke we had a penalty, plus corners etc were not given.

we deserved to win anyways gifton didnt do much and ade is a **** for getting the penalty and just a cheat.

fans view of the game:
