Masinga set to sign for the Hornets

Masinga set to sign for the Hornets

Watford will complete the signing of former Leeds United forward Phil Masinga on Friday, beating off competition from Stoke and Coventry City.

Rookie Manager Adrian Boothroyd commented “Masinga comes with bags full of experience and has played at the top level with Leeds, He will had height to our rapid forward line.”

Masinga was signed from Mamelodi Sundowns by Leeds United in the same raid that netted Lucas Radebe in 1994. Masinga played over 31 games for the Lilleywhites netting 5 goals before dropping down the pecking order at Elland Road.

A brief spell at Coventry proved fruitless before plying his trade abroad. The former South African striker then had successful spells at St Gallen in Switzerland and Bari in Italy, as well as maintaining his place in the South African national side and gaining an Italian passport.

After a brief spell at former club Mamelodi Sundowns where he accumulated 11 goals in 32 starts last year Masinga decided to join the hornets on a 1 year deal. The African star commented “I would like to prove my worth to Watford and help the club realise it’s ambitions to reach the playoffs. I had several offers on the table from other clubs, but Watford have a great tradition and fans.”

Masinga will join up the rest of the squad on Friday.
