Default Forest Bid for Fryatt!

FOREST BID FOR STRIKER FRYATT
Next Story | Previous Story | Back to list

12:00 - 16 August 2005
Nottingham Forest have made a "substantial" offer for Walsall's teenage hotshot Matty Fryatt.

Gary Megson has targeted the England under-19 striker as the man to bolster his attacking options at the City Ground.

But the Reds may have to part with as much as £1m to land the 19-year-old, who has also been watched by a string of Premiership clubs, including Aston Villa, WBA and Wigan.

Forest chief executive Mark Arthur confirmed today: "We have made a substantial offer for the player."

Forest's initial bid is unlikely to match the £1m valuation put on Fryatt's head by Saddlers boss Paul Merson, but with his contract set to expire in the summer, they may be tempted to sell rather than run the risk of a transfer tribunal.

Chairman Nigel Doughty clearly seems prepared to back Megson's bid to earn an immediate return to the Championship, by sanctioning what would be the ninth summer signing. But the club are due significant payments for Michael Dawson and Andy Reid, if they remain in the Spurs first team in the coming weeks.

And speculation continues over the future of Jermaine Jenas, with Forest set for a ten per cent share of anything Newcastle receive for the midfielder, over the £5m they paid to take him from the City Ground.

Fryatt netted as Walsall inflicted defeat on Forest at the Bescot Stadium a week ago and struck again as Merson's side drew 2-2 with Southend on Saturday and lifted themselves to the top of the League One table. But it has been his international performances that have lifted him to prominence, as he fired four goals to help England to the final of the under-19 European Championships.

Merson has warned that he will not be allowed to leave Bescot on the cheap, using Reading's £1m record signing Leroy Lita as an example of what Fryatt is worth.

"Matty is worth a few quid," said Merson. "Leroy Lita went from Bristol City for £1m and Matty has got more potential than him."

After his antics the other night at walsall, Im quite surprised he may be wearing a forest shirt soon. One more step towards the crowd during his celebration that night, may have been pretty nasty!

But if he comes and bangs the goals in then all will be forgotten!

Who, Wolves or Forest?

I don't think he'd go to forest tbh..bigger club yes, higher attendances yes, but at the end of the day forest are in the same league as he's playing in now anyway

Money talks in football, given a substantial wage rise i reckon he'd sign for 'em.

exactly.
We could offer him 2, 3 maybe even 4 times what he's on at Walsall.
