Sheffield United are believed to be closing in on the capture of Portsmouth striker Svetoslav Todorov on loan.
The Blades are keen to bolster their attacking options following the sale of Andy Gray to Premiership new boys Sunderland.
Neil Warnock has made enquiries for Richard Cresswell and Clinton Morrison, but his approaches have been rebuffed.
Pompey are keen to allow Todorov to leave Fratton Park temporarily and secure first-team football, as he has only played 45 minutes of Premiership action over the past two seasons.
Sheffield United may have a battle on their hands to sign Todorov as no less than nine other Championship clubs are believed to be monitoring his situation.
