Default bentley not off to wolves

Wolves manager Glenn Hoddle has denied reports he is chasing Arsenal's want-away forward David Bentley.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has accepted a transfer request from Bentley, who is concerned about his prospects of first-team football at Highbury.

Bentley, who can play on the wing or up front, spent last season on loan at Norwich City and has been linked with a return to Carrow Road.

West Ham United and Crystal Palace have also been mooted as admirers of the 20-year-old, while Wolves were also credited with an interest.

The player's agent Rob Segal says Bentley would be excited about moving to Molineux but Hoddle has dampened that enthusiasm by stating he has no plans to sign the starlet.

"There's no interest," said Hoddle. "He's a great young player but I'm not looking at that position."

Meanwhile, Hoddle insists Joleon Lescott is not for sale after the Wolves defender was linked with a move to The Premiership.

Lescott has been in sparkling form during the first week of the new season and his performances have made top-flight clubs take note.

But Hoddle is adamant that Lescott, who rejected a contract extension recently, will not be leaving the Black Country club.

He added: "Joleon is not for sale.

"He has still got two years left on his contract and we don't discuss contract issues outside the player and his agent."
