Watford manager Adrian Boothroyd expects to add to his squad before the start of the season.
The Hornets take on Charlton on Saturday in Alec Chamberlain's testimonial - their final match before the season opener against Preston on August 6.
Boothroyd said: "The team that starts against Charlton will not be the one that starts next weekend.
"If we are going to progress, we need to have a deeper squad and to add to the talent we already have.
"I want to bring in new players next week, to give us a competitive squad for the season."
