We have an injury prone team, this is expected, we still the strongest team , I expect hillario to fit in well like he did last year.
amount injuries we have had this year has been crazy, it's worse then any of the other top 4 . But it doesn' matter. Nothing matters at end of season. as long s everyone still alive.

7 world class players out for Newcastle
Not even including great players. WE could moan and moan, but I expect us to beat Newcastle
Out
Lampard
Essien suspended
Carvalho Suspended
Makelele
Drogba
Cech dowtful
Terry
7 world class players, but then A.Cole , Malouda, Cudicini, Belleti all out.
Pizarro is fat as well.
wonders what team,
-------------Cech/Hillario--------
Ferreira---Alex--Ben Haim---Bridge
----------Mikel------Sidwell------------
----------------Ballack----------------
--SWP---------Sheva------------Kalou
subs - J.Cole,Hillario/Taylor,Pizarro,Sinclair,Sahar? Hutchinson?
then again J.Cole could play. makes me think 9 great players out, our squad is very strong.
2-1 win.

I thought Essien was out of the QPR match?? I could be wrong tho
2007 has not been our year we have had so many injuries it is not funny. Hopefully 2008 will be better.
Personally I would rest Cech, Hilario I think can cover for this match...no point bringing Cech back if he is not 100% and he is going to make mistakes like the one against Villa.
I think Grant might put J.Cole in centre of midfield instead of Sidwell.
Do we have a 4th choice keeper??

Lampard sidelined by thigh injury
Quote:
Frank Lampard will miss the rest of Chelsea's festive season programme because of a thigh injury.
The England midfielder limped off after 26 minutes in Chelsea's 4-4 thriller against Aston Villa on Boxing Day.
"Scans have revealed a tear in Frank Lampard's right thigh. The tear is not the same leg that Frank injured earlier in the season," said a club statement.
"He will begin rehabilitation immediately and we hope to have him back playing within a few weeks."
Lampard's injury is yet another setback for Chelsea's title aspirations as they trail Premier League leaders Manchester United by seven points.
Manager Avram Grant is already without captain John Terry and striker Didier Drogba through injuries.
Ricardo Carvalho faces a likely three-match suspension after he was sent off for a two-footed tackle on Gabriel Agbonlahor at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea have confirmed they will not appeal against Carvalho's dismissal, but will do so for Ashley Cole, who was also sent off for deliberate hand ball in stoppage time against Villa.
The England left-back will have his case heard by the Football Association on Friday.
"It was not easy before without the injured and it's still not easy now, but this is the situation and we need to make the best of it," Grant told BBC Radio Five Live.
Grant's problems will be further exacerbated when he loses Drogba, Salomon Kalou, John Mikel Obi and Michael Essien to the African Cup of Nations in Ghana next month.
Their departures, along with injuries and suspensions, will mean the Israeli is likely to dip into the transfer market to strengthen his weakened squad.

"Everything is always about January because the transfer window is open," said Grant.
"The injured players and the African Nations Cup will make us think more about what we need to do."
Lampard had been sidelined by a thigh injury for six weeks earlier in the season. The 29-year-old is Chelsea's joint top scorer, along with Drogba, with nine goals in all competitions this season.

Confirmation of Lampards injury
I would just like to point out we have lost the most influential plaers in attack, defence and midfield in Terry, Lampard and Drogba...lucky us
and with the ACN coming up it ain't looking too gd for us.

Why is it that we play the same formation over and over again. We have no variation and teams can easily adapt to our tactics and counter them. We don't have great wingers, our only good target striker is out, yet we still insist on the 4-3-3. Whatever the hell Grant was trying to do with Pizarro last game, I hope he never tries it again. Playing him deep was pretty stupid. As for Joe Cole, I say we drop him to the bench. For one, he's completely useless as a winger. He can't cross and he's prone to dribble around pointlessly and lose possession. If we were to put him in the centre, he will probably cramp up Ballack's space and misuse possession to make himself look like a shitty version of Cristiano Ronaldo. I'd prefer it if Ballack dictated the play rather than Joe Cole. I think Sinclair should be given a run in the first team.

We play the same formation because it is our strongest formation...I know it sounds crazy now that Drogba is missing but for some reason we still play the 4-3-3...but tbh i cannot think of any other formation that could work atm..
Grant is terrible when it comes to tactics...Against Villa he should have put on Ben Haim the minute we went 4-3 up.
Ballack will always dictate the midfield J.Cole just provides the style/flair if you like...
tbh I agree with you on most counts... I think that SWP is playing poorly atm for some reason even tho he started well...J.Cole is a really gd player imo but he tries too many flicks and tricks that fail...Hopefully Malouda will be back soon....and Kalou...well he is an attacker but a much better winger as he is not required to shoot as much in that role. If I was Grant I would replace SWP and get another LW... Perhaps Sinclair will be given a run in the first team with all the injuries but I doubt Grant will let him because atm the most important thing for Grant is to win the games at all cost..so he will play the most senior players who acn win him games.
this is our squad:
Quote:
Chelsea (from): Cech, Hilario, Belletti, Ferreira, Alex, Ben-Haim, J Cole, Essien, Sidwell, Kalou, Shevchenko, Mikel, Sinclair, Wright-Phillips, Pizarro, Ballack.
|
lets see what he does with it.

Nothing else works because Grant hasn't tried anything. He's not a risk taker and I don't blame him. With Roman in the background, the Chelsea manager is always going to be under tremendous pressure to get results. If the 4-3-3 is our strongest formation and it has proven to work in the past, then there is no urgent need to change it. But if Chelsea wants to be successful in the long-term, Grant must learn to take risks and try different formations. Chelsea needs variation or we risk falling behind.

He needs to learn how to cross a ball. He's got good pace, and he can do his fair share of defending too. It's just his end product that needs work.

No, I don't think we need to sell SWP, but we do need another winger. Malouda is our only real winger other than the inconsistent SWP. Joe Cole is more suited for a central role, whereas Kalou is a forward.

Cech, Cudicini are back as is Makelele and Malouda.
Makelele still has a problem with his ear as can be seen in the Tottenham game he had his left ear (I think) covered up.
Malouda is back and definitely ready to get some game time. He has played the previous 2 matches all the 180 mins and he has been very gd. I never noticed that he could use his right foot as well, I assumed he was only able to use his left foot like most of our other left footers (Bridge and A.Cole).

well he is in the squad for the cup game against Everton however Lampard was meant to come back and play against Everton but now he has suffered a set back
Quote:
Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard has suffered a setback in his bid to recover from a thigh problem.
Lampard has been out of action since picking up the thigh injury in the Boxing Day draw with Aston Villa.
The England international had targeted a return against Everton in the second leg of their Carling Cup semi-final, but he will now miss the trip to Goodison Park after aggravating the injury in training.
Blues boss Avram Grant confirmed Lampard could be sidelined for a further two weeks.
"All I can say about his injury is that he is not available for the moment but we hope he will be soon as possible," said Grant.
"It is a little bit more complicated than we thought. But I think he will be back soon.
"He has torn his thigh muscle for a second time and I think it could be between days or two weeks from now."
Better news on the injury front for Grant is that Shaun Wright-Phillips could be available despite limping off against Birmingham at the weekend.
Wright-Phillips was expected to miss out after suffering an ankle injury at St Andrews, but he is back in light training and could make the clash with Everton.
"The good thing with these players is they like to play and even when they are not fit and 100 per cent, they are doing everything to play.
"Not all the players have been 100 per cent fit for the last few games but the squad is very short. Everybody, including Shaun, is doing everything they can to play, but it is good news he is out there."
Grant has dismissed suggestions that his side will go to Goodison Park and sit back and defend their 2-1 lead from the first leg.
"I don't believe in that. If you go to only defend then you can make a mistake and lose the game because of it," insisted Grant.
"It is not our style of game over the last three months. I don't think you can play totally different for just one game. It is not the nature of the team.
"We will not change our system and our style of play will be the same we play at home. I believe Everton feel more comfortable to play at home but for us it is the same. The atmosphere at Liverpool and Goodison Park is very good. I like it. The supporters get behind their team. It is a great atmosphere.
"The Carling Cup is not my main target but it is a good competition. If you get into the semi-final of any competition then you want to qualify and any game we have played in the Carling Cup we have taken seriously."
