Chelsea's Lampard "very close" to £30M deal
Chelsea are ready to end all speculation over Frank Lampard's future with a mega contract offer worth £120,000-a-week.
The Mirror says he will be rewarded with the deal - worth around £30 million for the next five seasons - as a compromise is reached with owner Roman Abramovich.
Lampard's new contract will give him a pay hike of around £25,000 a week and a source close to the England star confirmed the deal is "very close" to being finalised.

Shouldn't this be a cause for concern? Ever since the sigining of Shevchenko and Ballack during the summer, the wages at Chelsea have gone up considerably. We can't keep this up if we want to break even in the near future. This also inflates the wages of anybody new we sign for next season. As well, when it comes time for some current Chelsea players to negotiate a new contract, well guess what, their contract is going to be inflated because of Ballack and Shevchenko.

Of course we have to keep Lampard, but I was trying to point out the general trend in which contracts are going at Chelsea. Sooner or later, everyone is going to be paid large sums of money. The question is, if Chelsea hadn't signed Ballack and Shevchenko on such massive contracts, would Lampard settle for a smaller sum now? Probably.
