Chelsea to steal Hargreaves
Quote:
Reports in Germany claim that Chelsea are to make a shock move for long time Manchester United target Owen Hargreaves.
The midfielder has made no secret of his desire to leave Bayern, and has been pursued by Sir Alex Ferguson since last summer's World Cup.
Now Bayern Munich claim that the Blues have made secret enquiries about the England midfielder and, worryingly for United, the German club may be keen to listen to offers from the West London side after expressing an interest in signing Arjen Robben.
The German giants are looking for a new winger and had been reported to be making enquiries about French midfielder Frank Ribery - but manager Felix Magath has also admitted an interest in Robben.
"He is a good player, very good dribbler and quick," Magath said.
The Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has also admitted his admiration for the Dutch international.
"He is an interesting player, one that every team would fear to face," he told the press.
Robben has often found himself sidelined this season as Chelsea have struggled to incorporate Andriy Shevchenko and Michael Ballack into their team.
The former PSV Eindhoven player has two years left on his current contract, and has also been linked with a move to Real Madrid.

Football365.com - CHELSEA TO STEAL HARGREAVES - REPORT - All The News - Football365 News
People have claimed you only signed certain players (SWP among others) to stop your rivals signing them, but if this report is true it is surely proof of that strategy.
With Chelsea's midfield there is absolutely no possible footballing reason for any interest in Hargreaves. Personally I think he'd turn down a move to West London though, he seems a clever bloke and I'm sure he'll be well aware of the example set by Scott Parker, Damien Duff, SWP etc.

It's being repported that Bayern want Robben, so Bayern and Chelsea might reach a deal including both players.

Bad deal for Chelsea if so.

I don't believe it.I'm certain Owen Hargreaves will join Manchester United if they are willing to pay the price.

Yes, I agree.
It's being repported in the German press, that the deal is - Hargreaves = Robben + 10m €
IMO, it's just speculation, I it doesn't seem possible to me, as Chelsea have already many mids, why would they need Hargreaves ?
Plus, Robben is probably their best winger now, since Joe Cole is injured, so I doubt that Chelsea would let him go.

Hargreaves is highly overrated. He isn't worth 30m €, but suposing that he does, that deal makes sense.

Seeing as the board doesnt seem to want to pay any money atm the Robben option would be the only way and as he showed on Saturday he is by far our best player when on top form and can do it on his own. There is absolutely no chance that even Roman Abramovich is so stupid as to let Robben go for Hargreaves. We have about 3 DM's waiting in the wings for Maka to retire so wot would be the point?
