Sheva's Roman respect

Andrei Shevchenko has revealed he speaks regularly with Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich but has no intention of swapping San Siro for Stamford Bridge.

The feared Milan marksman has sporadically been linked with a move to the Premiership champions, for whom money is no object.

The Ukraine international is widely credited with the tag of the world's best striker and he would be an enviable addition to Chelsea's expensively-assembled squad.

But while Shevchenko admits he has great respect for Abramovich, he has no desire to accept the Russian's millions and join The Blues.

He feels there is more to Abramovich than simply his vast fortune but believes he owes a debt to Milan for giving him the chance to win major titles.

"I really appreciate everything about Roman - his seriousness, his hard work, what he's trying to create at Chelsea and his way of going about it," said Shevchenko.

"He has earned an enormous amount of respect and, although I wouldn't presume to call us good friends, we talk quite a bit.

"But I am not rushing to join Chelsea because of him.

"Each player has to find the club which is right for him and I've done that at Milan.

"They have given me the chance to win all these things, the fans love me and I respect the people who run AC Milan. Why would I wish to go elsewhere?

"Anyway there has been too much talk about Roman, his money and what he's going to do with it. He's too smart to toss the whole team out the window every summer to buy new players.

"He has been dramatic but shrewd and that's allowed him to make Chelsea one of the best sides."

BUT ANYWAY, sheva at 32 will still be a world classs finisher of legendary status and could do a job for anyone.

That's not how it always goes in football, look at Ruud, Ronaldo and Kluivert for example.

kluivert, i agree, but thats more down to his lack of work ethic.

i am saying that sheva, if he maintains his fantastic work rate, has the talent to go on like teddy.
