So glad this board is not affected!!!!!
Phew! I thought every message boards would be shut down for awhile before the "matter" is being resolved.
I don't think that many are aware of it though. It seems that there are not much traffic here, but nonetheless would somehow spread through word of mouth no doubt!
Now back to posting!

i think it's more a case of website administrators closing thier message boards down to protect themselves, rather than the 'authorities' closing them by force.
at the moment no laws are being broken, so it would seems a little ott if you ask me.
how far can this sort of thing go? will this set a precedent for censoring conversations people have over the net? if this is anything to ge by, why is it then not possible to close either chat-rooms or message boards when other unsubstantiated claims are made? they often are.
so much for the 'freedom' of the west. feels more like a communist state right now if you ask me. net:

COme on now CFC1905...... I'm not going OTT, neither are the website administrators..... the are no clear guidelines, they are just doing what they think is best.
I always thought that we should just keep to football anyways!
Isn't that why we're here?

starman. i wasn't saying that about you. i was referring to the closure of message boards as being ott.
i agree that things should be kept to more or less football. i never posted anything on the subject of 'the incident' over at soccernet. it was just fun reading all the ridiculous speculation.

i agree on that. i think starman was referring to the overindulgence that people on some message boards take with regard to rumour mongering just for the sake of 'getting one over' on someone else's football club.
people often make unsubstantiated claims. so with the recent action that has been taken on this issue, i'm just wondering if this will set a new precident on taking action over such claims, or what could be considered as malicious rumour spreading.

Concern over internet
According to the Guardian on Wednesday, if the alleged attackers' names enter the public domain it would add strength to those who favour legislation to restrict what the media can report in sexual offences cases.
The naming of TV celebrities Matthew Kelly and John Leslie as complaints against them were investigated sparked a debate earlier this year over whether those accused of sexual offences should have their identities protected.
-------------------------------------
i think that there's a very big difference between a big name website such as planetfootball or as they said, the daily mirror, reporting information/speculation to their readers, than there is someone who is on a message board throwing names around.
the latter lack credibility and in no way could bias a court case. it's just like people discussing the subject in a bar or at work imo.
they need to 'take it with a pinch of salt' as they say. urghh. i hate cliches. that's what andy gray and sky sports does to you.

"...media frenzy could induce prejudice to any future trial."
That is the main concern..... unnecessary public furore over alledged "names" might affect or obscure the justice system.
LOL on the Andy Gray reference!
