Former France captain Marcel Desailly has joined Qatar's Al Ithihad Club. The ex-AC Milan and Chelsea defender flew into Doha on Sunday to sign the deal.
Adel Khamis, one of the club's directors and a former Qatar national player, said they were happy to have signed Desailly, but refused to reveal the terms.
Desailly said: 'I am quite happy to move to Qatar. Mentally I am ready to play here.'
Ghana-born Desailly played 116 times for France before retiring from international soccer after Euro 2004.
The 36-year-old had been linked to vacant coach's job with the Ghana national side.
Instead, Desailly has been lured to oil-and-gas-rich Qatar, following such veterans as Argentine Gabriel Batistuta, Frenchman Frank Lebouef and Spaniard Joseph Guardiola.
Desailly was born in Ghana but moved to France as a boy after being adopted by a French diplomat.
