Default Backroom Staff Lineup Complete

Quote:
José Mourinho has finalised his backroom team for the coming season by adding a fifth member and as previously suggested, Premiership experience and deep Chelsea knowledge has been incorporated with Steve Clarke the man chosen to provide it.

Steve’s role will be assistant manager, the same title as taken by Baltemar Brito, one of the four staff José is bringing with him from Porto.

Steve’s Chelsea credentials cannot be doubted. Signed in 1987, he went on to become our fifth highest appearance maker of all-time with 421 games to his name. He was Chelsea Player of the Year in 1994 and at the close of his playing days he collected winners’ medals for the FA Cup, Coca Cola Cup and in his final game, the European Cup Winners’ Cup.

He then joined Ruud Gullit at Newcastle in a similar coaching capacity to the one he will be undertaking at Chelsea next season. He remained at St. James’ Park for two seasons, also working under Bobby Robson before returning to Chelsea first as a scout and for the last three seasons as youth team coach.

Now 40 years old, it is hard to think of many who know more about the workings and recent past of Chelsea Football Club.

The backroom team is completed by goalkeeping coach Silvino Louro, fitness coach Rui Faria and assistant scout Andre Villas Boas.
