Default Pay-per-view revolution in Serie A?

Pay-per-view revolution in Serie A? Sunday 6 January, 2008

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Serie A fixtures could soon be spread out over the weekend in similar style to the Premier League, if new proposals are accepted.

Currently the Italian top flight games are staggered over four different kick-off times to placate pay-per-view television companies.

There is a game at 17.00 UK time (18.00 in Italy) on Saturday, evening starts on both Saturday and Sunday and the rest of the matches are in the traditional 14.00 Sunday slot.

However, clubs eager to get more money from the television stations are considering a new proposal.

From next season we could see these fixtures plus a Sunday midday start and another game squeezed in at 16.30.

This has been experimented once before with a Parma-Juventus encounter on January 9, 2000 at 13.00 local time, but it was not repeated.

Lega Calcio President Antonio Matarrese is reported to be enthusiastic about the plan and it could go to a vote relatively soon.

More games on TV can only be a good thing as far as I'm concerned.

I honestly never could understand why they didn't do this from the start. I'm all for it also, as right now too many games go unnoticed, especially with mid to small table teams. It will be really good for them.
