Lazio Press Room:One more year for Ballotta
Quote:
Matteo Sereni celebrated his Torino move with a scathing attack on old club Lazio and their President Claudio Lotito.
“I had won my battle at Lazio,” insisted the goalkeeper. “I had become a first team player, leaving someone as great as Angelo Peruzzi behind me. Then Lotito got involved.
“The President didn’t like the fact my wages were higher than anyone else’s and proposed that I halve them. I would have remained in Rome for the fans, but not for Lotito, who didn’t appreciate me. So I preferred a change of scenery.”
The former Ipswich Town shot-stopper has had a troubled time since his return to Italy in 2002, playing at Brescia and Lazio.
In 2005-06 he managed just two top flight appearances for the Biancocelesti and seven with Treviso, while this season he did not set foot on the pitch.
Now he has the opportunity to begin again with this free transfer to Torino, where he replaces the Atletico Madrid-bound Christian Abbiati.
“I was off the field of play for almost two years, but perhaps people do not realise I always trained, as much as and in some cases more than my teammates.
“Now all I am missing is the posts so I can shake a little of the rust off. I have this crazy desire to prove who I am to the sceptics. I understand that not having seen me for a while, they might think I stopped existing, but that is not the case.
“I have immense motivation to get back to the goalkeeper I was and never stopped being.”
Torino will begin their pre-season training from July 12 to 29 at Malles near Bolzano, moving on to Acqui Terme from August 1 to 13.

Corradi wants Lazio comeback
Quote:
Corradi wants Lazio comeback Sunday 15 July, 2007
Bernardo Corradi impressed in Sven Goran Eriksson’s first match for Manchester City, but has begged Lazio to bring him home.
“My objective is to return to Italy and Lazio would be at the top of my list,” commented the centre-forward.
“I know the club is on the look-out for a new striker and that would be absolutely brilliant for me.”
Corradi had a starring role in the opening friendly of the campaign, scoring one and setting up another in Man City’s 3-1 victory over Doncaster.
But the arrival of £8.8m signing Rolando Bianchi – who was in the stands for that game – limits the space that he will have this term.
The former Chievo hitman is willing to take a pay-cut to return to Lazio’s Stadio Olimpico, accepting their new salary cap.
“When you really want something, then intelligent people can easily come to an agreement,” he told ‘Teleradiostereo.’
“I know some people don’t like returns, but aside from that, Rome is an exceptional city and Lazio remain in my heart.”
Corradi scored 23 goals in 69 appearances for the Biancocelesti, but was sold to Valencia in 2004 when the club risked bankruptcy.
“There was an old debt with Valencia that had to be paid and President Claudio Lotito achieved that by handing over Stefano Fiore and myself. He managed to turn around a dramatic situation.”
So much so, in fact, that this year Lazio are in the Champions League preliminary round.

He did well during his time here, but I don't think a return would be suitable. We already have Makinwa, Pandev and Rocchi as our 3 main strikers. I would prefer to have our 4th striker as someone exciting and do not demand a first team spot, furthermore, I am sure Lotito has already signed this 4th striker, just that he isn't revealed to the press.

I completely agree, Lazio are fine there, and wouldn't gain much by him returning.

G.Rossi/Bojinov possibility?

Lotito Hints At Possible Bojinov And G. Rossi Moves
The President of Lazio expressed his satisfaction at how the club has been moving in the transfer market which made the Biancocelesti stronger than last year.
Claudio Lotito, President of Lazio, spoke from the Austrian training camp of the Biancocelesti, where the Roman side is currently preparing the season ahead.
Lotito declared how satisfied he was at the way the current transfer market is going and opened the door to two new possible arrivals which could further improve his side.
"I'm convinced, that we have worked well in the market and we are stronger than last year," affirmed a very confident Lazio President.
When asked about the possibility of signing Bojinov and Rossi, Lotito hinted that the chances were good.
"Everything can still be improved, therefore if there will be the opportunity to improve the quality of the team, we shall do it."

I must admit I am pretty excited by this news.
This is 1 transfer which will throw me off my chair. With Rossi, everything is settled, Man Utd wants to sell him, though I know that dishing out 10m is not what we can afford. But with Lotito, nothing is certain. We are looking for a striker to improve the team, and I reckon Rossi would keep Rocchi and Pandev on their toes.

Bojinov is more likely than Rossi in my opinion, either would be a good signing though.

Wow, this would be huge. Isn't Bojinov a bit of a hot head though? One more signing and I think we're good to go.

I believe if Rossi were to actually come to Lazio, he would take the place of Pandev.

Pandev eyes double figures Monday 30 July, 2007
Lazio striker Goran Pandev has set his sights on delivering another season of success to the Biancocelesti faithful, starting with 10 goals.
The capital club exceeded all expectations last term when they finished third and their overachievement owed much to the strike partnership of Pandev and Tommaso Rocchi.
The pair hit the net 27 times between them and were amongst Serie A’s most lethal combinations as the Aquile booked a Champions League berth.
“I want double figures again this year,” Pandev told Il Corriere dello Sport. “Rocchi can get 10 easily as he shows such good movement. It’s difficult to say how many someone like him can get.”
The Lazio faithful are eagerly anticipating the draw for the Champions League third qualifying round which takes place on August 3.
“The Champions League matches will be the games of my life because this season could change everything for us,” the Macedonian explained.
“We could climb up a level in the football worId. I can’t wait to play in the tournament.”

Italians prepare Czech cash Wednesday 15 August, 2007
A trio of Italian sides are preparing to fight for the services of Czech starlet Martin Fenin, according to reports in the peninsula.
The 20-year-old striker caught the eye at the summer’s Under-20 World Cup and has enjoyed a dream start to the Gambrinus Liga season with Teplice.
Now there are reports that Atalanta, Fiorentina and Lazio are all ready to approach the Glassmakers with generous offers.
Fenin – who hails from Pavel Nedved’s hometown of Cheb - has been selected for the Czech Republic’s upcoming friendly against Austria and is valued at around £5m.
However, that sum may rise given that there is also reported interest from several top European sides including Espanyol, Barcelona and Werder Bremen.
“We haven’t said that we want to sell Fenin, but we will be listening to all offers,” revealed Teplice President Frantisek Hardlicka. “We aren’t in any hurry and we are under no pressure so we will dictate the deal.”
It seems likely that Fenin will command the nation’s record transfer fee and his agent Pavel Zika believes the transfer will improve the Gambrinus Liga’s profile.
“Selling Martin for such a figure would be exceptional for Czech football,” he beamed.
“But we want to look at all the options and do what is best for for the player. The lad’s opinion is very important.”

Lazio make spirited response Tuesday 4 September, 2007
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It has emerged that Lazio have taken an unusual measure to try and ease their injury woes and enlisted the services of an exorcist!
The Biancocelesti’s early season has been dogged by the absence of key figures such as Guglielmo Stendardo, Sebastiano Siviglia, Stefano Mauri and Aleksandar Kolorov.
After Brazilian defender Emilson Cribari sustained a horrific facial injury in the first leg of the capital club’s Champions League preliminary first leg against Dinamo Bucharest, the club decided to take spiritual action.
A priest from Genoa – who lives near the Vatican City – was called in to bless the technical staff, players and dressing rooms at Lazio’s Formello training complex.
Since the blessing, French defender Mobido Diakhite has suffered a fractured fibia and the Aquile ranks continue to thin.

Lotito defends summer signings Tuesday 4 September, 2007
Lazio President Claudio Lotito has rejected criticism of the Biancocelesti’s transfer campaign and revealed that he snubbed Antonio Cassano.
The capital club were one of last season’s revelations as they clinched Champions League football, but Delio Rossi’s side have disappointed so far this time around.
After draws against Torino and Sampdoria, there are already suggestions that the Aquile didn’t make the most of the chance to add to their squad and the current injury crisis could have been averted.
Coach Rossi has publicly stated that he had hoped for more new recruits and sporting director Walter Sabatini offered his resignation after a frustrating month culminating in the botched move for Juan Pablo Carrizo.
“We signed nine new players and the squad is complete,” Lotito raged. “The side should only be judged on results and I think that they will come.”
The fiery Lazio patron surprisingly claimed that he could have lured ex-Roma star Cassano over the summer, but opted against approaching Real Madrid.
“We didn’t need a sensational swoop,” he insisted.
“We also could have brought Cassano back to Rome, but we weren’t interested. The squad is calm and relaxed and this Lazio can go far.”

Lazio consider Rome home Tuesday 18 September, 2007
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The mayor of Rome has urged Lazio to build their new stadium in Fiumicino rather than moving south to Valmontone.
Lazio President Claudio Lotito is keen to relocate the Aquile from the Stadio Olimpico home they share with city rivals Roma.
While the Giallorossi’s support largely hails from within the Rome city boundary, a large proportion of Lazio’s following comes from the outskirts.
Lotito has been planning a new single-use stadium for Lazio for three years and has lined up a site in Valmontone - 20km south of the city – but mayor Walter Veltroni has other ideas.
“He needs to work out whether he wants to build a stadium or a city,” moaned Veltroni. “If he just wants a site for a stadium, the region of Fiumicino has already indicated it will support him.”
Another possibility is rebuilding the Stadio Flaminio, which is used for Italy’s international rugby matches and Serie C2 Cisco Roma games.
“If he doesn’t want to move to Fiumicino, there is a good location at the Flaminio,” he concluded.
Meanwhile, Lazio begin their Champions League campaign against Greek champions Olympiakos tonight at the Karaiskakis Stadium.
Lazio (probable): Ballotta; Scaloni, Stendardo, Cribari, Zauri; Mudingayi, Ledesma, Mutarelli, Mauri; Pandev, Rocchi
