Week 11 - Reports

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Albinoleffe 2-0 Mantova
Albinoleffe got back on track with this important win over Jekyll and Hyde Mantova, who went from a 3-0 win at Brescia midweek to this disappointing performance. It took just 45 seconds for Ruopolo to break the deadlock and Cellini made the result safe with a trademark poacher’s goal. Marchetti performed a marvellous save to deny Lucenti, but when Di Cesare saw red it ended Mantova’s hopes of a comeback.
Scorers: Ruopolo 1 (A), Cellini 37 (A)
Sent off: Di Cesare 53 (M)
Albinoleffe: Marchetti; Colombo, Gervasoni, Conteh, Peluso; Gori (Garlini 80), Poloni, Carobbio, Cristiano; Cellini (Bonazzi 73); Ruopolo (Ferrari 86)
Mantova: Pegolo; Sacchetti, Notari, Di Cesare, Balestri; Lucenti (Passoni 70), Grauso, Spinale, Tarana (Calori 64); Caridi (Corona 46); Godeas
Ref: Palanca
Attendance: 3,165

Ascoli 5-2 Cesena
Ascoli ended their crisis in emphatic fashion, but Cesena continue to struggle in this seven-goal thriller. All the action came in the second half, but it was the visitors who could have taken the lead following Pesce’s handling offence, only for Salvetti to fire the penalty off target. Ascoli came out fighting and were quickly 2-0 up through Bernacci’s brace, both set up by Guberti. Soncin converted a penalty for Ola’s handball and was later to net another individual effort, while Guberti got his glory on Bernacci’s assist. Cesena staged a late fightback with Ferretti’s spot-kick and a Sacilotto strike, but it was too late. Cortellini saw red in stoppages for a late tackle on Luci.
Scorers: Bernacci 47, 52 (A), Soncin pen 55, 73 (A), Guberti 58 (A), Ferretti pen 77 (C), Sacilotto 83 (C)
Missed penalty: Salvetti 37 (C)
Sent off: Cortellini 92 (C)
Ascoli: Taibi; Aquilanti, Cioffi, Micolucci, Pesce (Melucci 68); Job, Di Donato, Centi (Luci 54), Guberti; Bernacci (Maniero 73), Soncin
Cesena: Sarti; Turati, Ola, Biasi (Croce 54), Cortellini; Sacilotto, De Feudis, Salvetti (Botta 64); Ferretti, Moscardelli (Vascak 70), Biserni
Ref: Cavarretta
Attendance: 5,905

Bari 1-1 Messina
The points were shared at the Stadio San Nicola, but there were plenty of scoring opportunities for both teams. Donda first tested Manitta with a fierce free kick, then his cross was turned in by Lanzafame to give Bari the lead. Messina took just seven minutes to draw level when Cordova sent Biancolino clear on goal. In the second half both Biancolino and Lanzafame struck the frame of the goal.
Scorers: Lanzafame 19 (B), Biancolino 26 (M)
Bari: Gillet; Belmonte, Di Dio, Stellini, Loseto (Bonanni 46); Tabbiani, Donda (Fiorentino 67), Gazzi, Galasso (Ganci 70); Cavalli, Lanzafame
Messina: Manitta; Galeoto, Zanchi, Giosa, Parisi; Lazzari (Rea 75), Pestrin, Cordova (Bombara 86), Gaveglia (D`Aversa 60); Moro, Biancolino
Ref: Lops
Attendance: 2,434

Brescia 4-1 Triestina
Brescia climbed back to the top of the table just days after their shock 3-0 thrashing by Mantova, as leaders Pisa crumbled. Feczesin was the star of the show, as his header was parried into the path of Mannini for the opener, then he netted twice before the break. Triestina gave themselves a consolation goal with Granoche’s penalty, but Possanzini struck on the counter to secure the 4-1 scoreline.
Scorers: Mannini 2 (B), Feczesin 35, 45 (B), Granoche pen 57 (T), Possanzini 70 (B)
Brescia: Viviano; Zoboli, Mareco, Dallamano; Stankevicius, Vass (Nsereko 86), Zambrella, Depetris (Martina Rini 84); Mannini; Feczesin (Scaglia 73), Possanzini

Ref: Marelli
Attendance: 3,934

Frosinone 0-0 Bologna
Frosinone are now unbeaten in five and confirmed their current form by holding out against ambitious Bologna. Amerini had two fine early chances for the home side when his efforts from the edge of the area skimmed the woodwork, while Evacuo wasted a good opportunity created by Bocchetti. The Rossoblu only came out of their shell in the second half with Marazzina drilling over, Carrus and Adailton threatening a goal. In stoppages Marazzina saw red for dissent.
Sent off: Marazzina 90 (B)
Frosinone: Sicignano; Ischia, Pagani, S Bocchetti, A Bocchetti; Lodi, Pecchia (D’Antoni 59), Amerini (Scarlato 71), Cariello; Evacuo, Martini (Dedic 46)
Bologna: Antonioli; Daino, M Castellini, Terzi, Bonetto; Confalone, Carrus, Amoroso (Della Rocca 46); Bombardini, Fava (Adailton 62); Marazzina (Danilevicius 90)

Attendance: 5,634

Grosseto 2-0 Pisa
Pisa’s run of six consecutive victories – and their time at the top of the Serie B table – ground to a halt with this surprise derby defeat. The revelations were unusually sluggish and rarely threatened Bressan’s goalmouth. Grosseto get the bragging rights in Tuscany this weekend with a Carparelli penalty for Raimondi’s tackle on Dall’Acqua and a splendid long-range free kick. It was a tense affair, as Lazzari and Trevisan saw red for double bookable offences, while Raimondi was dismissed after he struck a ballboy.
Scorers: Carparelli pen 30 (G), Dall’Acqua 59 (G)
Sent off: Lazzari 65 (G), Raimondi 73 (P), Trevisan 93 (P)
Grosseto: Bressan; Innocenti, Mignani, Terra; Abruzzese (Virga 41), Garofalo, Valeri, Moro; Lazzari; Carparelli (Carboni 72), Dall`Acqua (Paulinho 83)
Pisa: Morello; Zavagno (Rajczi 79), Trevisan, Raimondi, Zappetti; Braiati, Genevier; D`Anna (Carrozza 62), Castillo, Cerci; Kutuzov (Ciotola 62)
Ref: Gava
Attendance: 6,377

Modena 1-0 Avellino
This win was already decided after 70 seconds, although Modena made life difficult for themselves by relying on that very early Tamburini left-foot screamer into the top corner. Giampa’ and Gozzi nearly doubled their advantage, while Bruno’s goal was disallowed for a push. Avellino remained in the running and in stoppages could have equalised, but Corallo nodded over from point-blank range.
Scorers: Tamburini 2 (M)
Modena: Frezzolini; Antonazzo, Gozzi, Ungari, Tamburini (Lombardi 75); Giampa`, Luisi, Bolano, Fantini (Longo 60); Pinardi (Okaka 78); Bruno
Avellino: Pantanelli; Carbone, Maietta, Corallo, De Angelis, Porcari (Paonessa 65); Sestu, Anastasi, Bracaletti (Di Cecco 58); Kenesei (Salgado 73), Pellicori
Ref: Pinzani
Attendance: 7,812

Piacenza 1-3 Chievo
Chievo continue to climb towards the top flight, but Piacenza cannot celebrate the debut of new Coach Mario Somma. Former Piace tactician Beppe Iachini had the last laugh, although he had gone 1-0 down to a Padalino lob. Bentivoglio made the most of Luciano’s assist to equalise and the Flying Donkeys took control in the second half. Pellissier’s goal – again created by Luciano – was soon followed by a D’Anna dismissal and Marcolini’s closing penalty.
Scorers: Padalino 10 (P), Bentivoglio 15 (C), Pellissier 51 (C), Marcolini pen 79 (C)
Sent off: D’Anna 55 (P)
Piacenza: Cassano; Nef, Miglionico, D`Anna, Anaclerio; Riccio (Gemiti 77), Patrascu; Rantier (Aspas 80), Padalino, Kharja (Olivi 55); Simon
Chievo: Squizzi; Cesar, Mandelli, Mantovani, Malago`; Bentivoglio, Marcolini, Italiano; Luciano (Obinna 77), Gasparetto (Greco 91), Pellissier (Iunco 82)
Ref: Valeri
Attendance: 2,989

Ravenna 1-0 Treviso
Ravenna earned their first win in a month to clamber out of the danger zone. Succi rose to nod in Pivotto’s cross after 10 minutes, taking his seasonal tally to five goals. Treviso ‘keeper Calderoni needed a smart save to prevent Succi getting another on the counter-attack.
Scorers: Succi 11 (R)
Ravenna: Capecchi; Pivotto, Cosenza, Fasano, Nicola; Toledo (Aloe 55), Calzi (Olive 78), Sciaccaluga, Barilla` (Pizzolla 50); Chianese, Succi
Treviso: Calderoni; Baccin (Russotto 46), Bonucci, Viali, Scurto, Smit; Trotta (Guigou 68), Venitucci, Quadrini; Piovaccari, Pia` (Barreto 61)
Ref: Ciampi
Attendance: 2,704

Rimini 2-3 Lecce
Lecce came away with a potentially decisive victory in the race for promotion, but were made to work until the last second by 10-man Rimini. Esposito had given the visitors the lead by nodding in a corner kick and Rimini equalised with Valiani after Ricchiuti had rattled the crossbar. Cardinale’s dismissal straight after the restart and a Schiavi header seemed to put the game firmly in the Salentini’s hands, but once again Jeda hauled them back. It was a chaotic finale with Munari thumping the woodwork and a last-gasp Tulli winner. The goalscorer also saw red for a reaction foul.
Scorers: Esposito 13 (L), Valiani 25 (R), Schiavi 52 (L), Jeda 62 (R), Tulli 91 (L)
Sent off: Cardinale 46 (R), Tulli 94 (L)
Rimini: Pugliesi; Vitiello, Milone, Porchia (Peccarisi 61), Regonesi; Cardinale, Cristiano (Paraschiv 57); Pagano (Catacchini 85), Ricchiuti, Valiani; Jeda
Lecce: Rosati; Schiavi, Diamutene, Esposito; De Almeyda (Vives 62), Munari, Zanchetta, Ardito (Lovrecic 79), Giuliatto; Abbruscato (Tulli 85), Valdes
Ref: Orsato
Attendance: 5,336

Vicenza 0-0 Spezia
Vicenza and Spezia shared the spoils in a disappointing relegation dogfight where both sides were more afraid of defeat than eager to win. Schwoch just failed to turn in Rigoni’s assist, while at the other end Colombo’s close-range header was off target. Vicenza had the best opportunity of the match with Marchesetti’s strike parried and Camorani’s goalline clearance on the Morosini follow-up.
Sent off: Gorzegno 94 (S)
Vicenza: Zancope`; Martinelli, Cudini, Scardina, Nastos; Raimondi (Marchesetti 69), Rigoni, Morosini (Serafini 90), Masiello; Capone; Schwoch (Sforzini 48)
Spezia: Santoni; Camorani, Zaninelli (Giuliano 69), Pecorari, Rossi; Biso; Do Prado (Fietta 72), Saverino, Frara, Gorzegno; Colombo (Eliakwu 86)

Week 12 - Reports

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Avellino 3-2 Ravenna
The crowd at the Stadio Partenio got their money’s worth with an entertaining home victory. Ravenna had taken the lead early on through Succi’s tap-in, but Paonessa drew level by meeting Sestu’s cross. Over the next 14 minutes, the match would be turned upside down. Toledo restored the advantage from the edge of the area only for Paonessa to catch him again and Toledo lost his head, elbowing De Angelis for a straight red card. Avellino took full advantage of a shaken squad and Paonessa completed his hat-trick with an angled free kick.

Bologna P-P Ascoli
Rained off.

Chievo 0-1 Albinoleffe
Albinoleffe recapture the Serie B leadership with a surprise win at the Bentegodi, ending promotion chasers Chievo’s unbeaten home record. The Flying Donkeys were hoping to be on top of the table by the end of this match, but they got off to a terrible start when Squizzi’s error from a Moro backpass effectively gifted Ruopolo the goal. ‘Leffe clammed up and were able to control Chievo for most of the game, then held out under siege for the final 20 minutes to take home the victory.

Lecce 1-1 Grosseto
Lecce shot themselves in the foot to throw away a precious victory that would have taken them into the top four. Bressan denied Ariatti and Zanchetta efforts, while Tiribocchi wasted a great chance from Munari’s assist when clear on goal. They finally made the pressure count when Bressan parried a Munari header, but only into the path of Tiribocchi. Angelo failed to make the most of another opportunity to seal the deal and Grosseto were handed an unexpected point in stoppages when Schiavi accidentally turned Paulinho’s cross into his own net.
Scorers: Tiribocchi 71 (L), Schiavi og 93 (G)

Mantova shook off their blues against a side in even worse condition than they are, keeping Attilio Tesser in his job for another week. Godeas netted a hat-trick against his former club and Corona ended his drought with a soft penalty. The visitors did get a consolation goal through Moscardelli, but it was not enough.

Messina 0-2 Vicenza
Vicenza clambered out of the relegation zone with a shock victory in Sicily. It was the replacement for the injured club legend Schwoch who inspired them, as youngster Sforzini stepped into the side with great confidence. He set up the opener for Capone and then got the second himself after Zanchi had been dismissed. It is Messina’s first home defeat of the season.
Scorers: Capone 45 (V), Sforzini 57 (V)

Pisa 3-3 Modena
Pisa had the leadership in their grasp until the final moments of this exhilarating encounter, but Bruno completed his hat-trick to rescue 10-man Modena. The Canarini had in fact taken the lead when Bruno met Giampa’s cross, but Castillo set up Cerci for a goal from an extremely tight angle and then turned the game around himself. Bruno got Modena back on level terms for 2-2 only for Cerci to restore Pisa’s advantage on the counter-attack. Ungari saw red, though to their credit the visitors kept up the pressure and snatched a late equaliser through Bruno again set up by Giampa.
Scorers: Bruno 23, 54, 87 (M), Cerci 32, 57 (P), Castillo 48 (P)
Sent off: Ungari 83 (M)

Rimini 0-1 Piacenza
Piacenza ended their run of three consecutive defeats with a surprise win at the Stadio Neri, further dampening Rimini’s promotion ambitions. New Coach Mario Somma celebrated their second away victory thanks to a lone header from Miglionico and Cassano’s acrobatic save on Ricchiuti.
Scorers: Miglionico 56 (P)
Rimini: Consigli; Vitiello, Peccarisi, Porchia, Bravo (Regonesi 65); Cristiano, Lunardini; Valiani (Pagano 59) Ricchiuti, Jeda; Vantaggiato (Docente 69)

Spezia 1-0 Brescia
Serse Cosmi’s boys fell to a shock defeat at lowly Spezia and are caught at the top of the table by Albinoleffe. The promotion favourites came face to face with an extremely aggressive team who went close with Colombo before Bianchi got his powerful header to a Frara free kick. Brescia fought back with Mannini and Zoboli, but when Dallamano saw red after the restart, it was an uphill struggle. In fact, Guidetti wasted a golden opportunity to make it 2-0. Treviso 2-1 Frosinone
Treviso finally ended their run of six consecutive defeats with a last-gasp goal at the Stadio Tenni. It had started out negatively yet again for Bepi Pillon’s side, as Frosinone threatened with Piovaccari’s goalline clearance on Lodi and substitute Evacuo was allowed a free header from Lodi’s free kick. Treviso reacted with ferocity and quickly got back on level terms through Barreto’s left-foot strike. Both sides pushed for victory, but deep into stoppages Sicignano parried Beghetto’s header, but could do nothing on the follow-up.

Triestina 1-1 Bari
The points were shared at the Stadio Nereo Rocco, but Bari left it late to get a result. Straight after the restart Granoche continued his Capocannoniere bid with his ninth goal of the season. Gillet denied Petras’ header a second for Triestina, while Donda struck the post for the visitors. The draw was decided just six minutes from time by Lanzafame’s splendid solo effort, running into the box for an angled left-foot drive. Both sides ended the match with 10 men after Antonelli and Tabbiani’s scuffle.
