Marcello Lippi thread
Quote:
Lippi in Valencia link Monday 29 October, 2007
Sources suggest that World Cup winning Coach Marcello Lippi will be offered a return to the bench with La Liga giants Valencia.
Los Ches sacked boss Quique Sanchez Flores after a 3-0 defeat at Sevilla, even though the Mestalla outfit are sitting in fourth spot.
Lippi has been enjoying a Sabbatical since leading Italy to World Cup glory last summer, but recently stated that he would return to the game if one of Europe’s biggest sides stepped in.
It now seems that may happen as reports indicate that Valencia President Juan Soler is preparing to approach the ex-Juventus hero.
It is believed that Soler spoke to ex-Chelsea tactician Jose Mourinho last week, but the Portuguese mastermind allegedly rebuffed the Xotos’ advances.
Lippi is yet to make any statement, but he is expected to either confirm or deny the rumours within the next few days.
If he were to take the job, Lippi would come up against fellow Italian Gianni De Biasi who is in charge of Levante.

Lippi plans summer return Wednesday 5 December, 2007
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
World Cup winning Coach Marcello Lippi has revealed that he wants to return to the bench at the end of the season.
The 59-year-old has been taking a Sabbatical since the Azzurri’s triumph in Germany and has dismissed links with a number of jobs.
However, it seems that Lippi is ready to take the reigns at a high-profile club as soon as this campaign is over.
“I want to get back to work,” he told Primocanale.
“I will only return at the start of a season because if you pick up a side half-way through it shows that they have problems.”
Speculation has already begun over which club will have a vacancy come June and most journalists believe that Milan are the only side of great enough standing that may be in need of a new leader.
It has been suggested that Lippi may replace the troubled Frank Rijkaard at Barcelona, but the former Juventus tactician’s reluctance to work outside the peninsula renders that solution unlikely.

Smart move Mr Lippi is, my thoughts exactly.
And the wait goes on....some club will pick up for sure, as he has shown his merits.

Lippi offered England job? Saturday 8 December, 2007
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Italian newspaper ‘Corriere dello Sport’ claims a representative of the English FA has flown out to hire Marcello Lippi.
The World Cup winner has been out of work since quitting the Azzurri in July 2006, but confirmed this week he is ready for a return to the bench.
According to the ‘Corriere’ front page story, a representative of the FA flew out for a personal visit to discuss terms with Lippi and received a preliminary agreement.
Another Italian, former Juventus and Roma boss Fabio Capello, is also in the running for the England job and has publicly stated he would be interested in taking it.
The favourite had until now been Jose Mourinho, already familiar with the Premier League after leading Chelsea to the title.
There are reports on the BBC that the Football Association has drawn up a shortlist of five or six candidates, already contacting Mourinho through his agent.
The other options are thought to be Martin O’Neill and ex-Germany Coach Jurgen Klinsmann.
The news is a blow for Capello, who up until now is the only tactician who has said he would be glad to lead England, as he is falling further behind in the pecking order.
"We are determined to get the right man, at the right time,” said FA chairman Geoff Thompson.
"Brian Barwick has been charged with finding a manager to recommend to the FA board and is well under way with the process."
Steve McClaren was sacked after failing to qualify for Euro 2008.

Capello is an ass. So willing to coach other countries, but turns his back on Italy.
As for Lippi, I'm mixed about this, as he will not only revamp the senior team, but the whole program given the chance, and I'm not too happy if our secrets get out.
But I think he is in for a rude surprise when he sees what he has to deal with, player wise.

Lippi: I know nothing Wednesday 12 December, 2007
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
World Cup winning tactician Marcello Lippi hasn’t received any contact from the FA regarding the job of England manager, but he’s still in the race.
The former Juventus boss has emerged as a strong candidate for the post after previous favourite Jose Mourinho ruled himself out of the running.
While compatriot Fabio Capello’s name has won more column inches in recent speculation, Lippi may still be in the running.
“I know that I’m amongst the candidates,” he insisted. “But I can honestly say that I haven’t been told anything, even off the record.
“The only thing that I can say is that Sir Alex Ferguson has given me a glowing recommendation due to the friendship I have with him.
“But that’s my only comment as I haven’t received any call from the FA so far.”
Press reports suggest that Capello may have already been approached and is due to meet with FA officials later this week, but this hasn’t been confirmed.
Today’s Gazzetta dello Sport even claims that the tactician will fly to London this morning to discuss terms.
Bookmakers are almost certain that Capello will be appointed and he stands at 2/9, while Lippi is his closest rival out at 8/1.

Lippi for Munich mission? Thursday 3 January, 2008
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
World Cup winning tactician Marcello Lippi is being tipped to receive the vacant Bayern Munich hot seat at the end of the season.
The Bavarian giants have stumbled since a fast start to the campaign and Coach Ottmar Hitzfeld has decided to leave the Allianz Arena in June.
Lippi has been enjoying a Sabbatical since leading the Azzurri to glory in Germany in the summer of 2006, but he has indicated that he is looking to return to the game.
Having turned down an offer from Birmingham and refused to enter the running for the England job, the 59-year-old is now being linked with the Bayern job.
Lippi is known to be on good terms with Franz Beckenbauer and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge who are entrusted with finding a replacement for Hitzfeld and he would be able to work with Italy striker Luca Toni once again.
There are reports that Rummenigge will meet with Lippi within the next fortnight, but no official confirmation has been made.

That move makes perfect sense to me, as I think Lippi and Bayern are perfect together. He will achieve success in Europe with that club.

As much as I hate Italian tactics, I do honestly admit that it wins you trophies.
Lippi is a great coach, won a lot with Juventus, and recently brought World Cup trophy to Italy.
I think he'd do a great job at Bayern.
Language could be the only problem for him, I think.
I've heard he is good friend with Rummenigge, our CEO. Don't know if there's anything true in it, anyway.
So many names being linked with Bayern, not just Lippi.

Lippi has changed a lot since his days with Inter. Italian tactics and hatred?
I'm not going to get into that if you don't mind. Lippi's world cup team and most of his club outing have been alright in the sense that he had balanced teams. He is no JM.
You would be very luck to have him, and good for Lippi to being able to choose where he wants to go.
