It's been confirmed that Flachi has been suspended with immediate effect from all footballing activity after failing a dope test.

Wow, up to two years seems harse to me...but that's the only way for players to learn. Hopefully this sets an example to future players who dope.

Will it? By banning him two years they do nothing really, other than maybe cause him depression and ruin his family and personal life?
How about treatment and a statement from the league that they know that addiction is a desease and treat these people.
There is a human factor in this.

This drug isn't a 'cheat' drug, so why are they banning him? Crazy. Like Jager was saying he should be given help.

I don't agree....he takes the drug on his own free will. The league shouldn't be responsible for someone's personal lifestyle what so ever. In this case, he failed a test and should be suspended. But why should the league help him? He should take it upon himself to get help. It's not a soccer related offense that he crossed. It's personal. Suspend him or ban him is to the extent the league should take. But to go out of their way to help him is ridiculous. The league's only responsibility is to ensure all players pass a drug test, if not they get the appropriate penalty. Yes, it's an addiction, but if he really wanted help and to change his ways...he would be in rehabilitation on his own free will or his family, not by the league. Then why didn't the league try and help Cassano deal with his "personal demons" that he has? No psychologist or anger management help for him...regardless of the problem...the league should stay out of it!

the league should help him because its the right thing to do
if they are going to test for such things, they should have a system in place to find help for these players
its this person now, what happens if its a major star next time?

You can't have remedies for every rule in the rule book that gets broken. Flachi was suspended for betting. So should the league help him resolve his betting addiction by providing some sort of professional help? No. There are players who get violent toward other players on the pitch...should the league help them with anger management classes? No. There would be too many occurrences for the league to deal with. I'm sure the league has contacts and will supply the necessary information to Samp for drug rehab facilities. But that's the extent to what they should do. They set a suspension. Enough said. They wash heir hands and move on. And if it's a major star, then the club should do what they can to help him...they are the ones that are paying him the salary.

Again, Flachi never actually bet himself. He was just friends with people that did bet which is against the current rules (I don't agree with them at all). Basically he was harshly treated in the whole betting scandal.

I was just using that as an example...i'm not bashing Flachi. Whatever people do in their lives is their own business. I do hope he gets things back on track and returns!

I'm glad Mutu has spoken up, as he seems to have got his life back on track, and now is a force in football.
Not saying that Flachi will have the same results, but I feel the league should offer some insight and should try to help him.
Because doing this is not making the league better, nor is the publicity doing the league doing any good.
