As for Italians failing in Spain, I think you look way too much into that. I would say its about 50-50.

Give credit where credit is due, Maresca and Tacchinardi have done well for themselves in Spain. Partciularly Maresca, he's become a fan favourite at Sevilla. Moretti at Valencia has had decent career over there as well.

As for the likes of Cassano, Corradi, Fiore and Di Vaio they were all victims of a lack of playing time, they were never given a chance.

Zambrotta and Cannavaro, well I'd put that down to it being their first season. Once they settle they'll be fine.

Rossi reveals Serie A snub Wednesday 1 August, 2007

Giuseppe Rossi has begun his Villarreal adventure, but confirmed he only left Italy because none of the big clubs believed in him.

The Manchester United owned starlet had scored nine goals in 19 games for Parma last term, rescuing them from relegation, but the Serie A sides would not meet his £6.7m price-tag.

“I thank my new club for this chance. They are a team that think big and that’s shown by the money they spent to bring me here. They really did believe in me,” said the Under-21 international.

He had been linked with Parma, Fiorentina, Napoli and Juventus, but it’s reported the highest offer Manchester United received was just £5.4m.

“I feel that I am a support striker, even if I consider myself a complete player. I am not Diego Forlan’s replacement, as I just want to focus on earning my own place in the squad.”

Rossi has put pen to paper on a six-year contract with Villarreal, a team with Italian links after working with Alessio Tacchinardi for 18 months on loan from Juventus.

“I am fit and ready to meet my new teammates. I can’t wait to get started.”

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed that the Red Devils will have a chance to buy Giuseppe Rossi back from Villarreal.

The US-born striker snubbed interest from several Italian sides to sign for the La Liga outfit on Wednesday for a fee of around £6m.

The move came as something of a surprise after Ferguson had stressed his desire to keep the talented youngster at Old Trafford.

However, now it has emerged that Rossi’s contract with the The Yellow Submarine leaves the way open for a United return.

“We have put a clause in his contract, so maybe he will come back to us at some stage,” Ferguson told MUTV.

“It was a difficult decision to let him leave. I had several meetings with him to try and convince him that he would get plenty of football with us this season.

"But after being on loan last term he wanted immediate first-team action.”

Rossi targets Euro glory Thursday 9 August, 2007

Azzurrini star Giuseppe Rossi is targeting Champions League qualification in his first season with new club Villarreal.

The 20-year-old striker joined the La Liga side this summer from Manchester United after snubbing interest from a host of Serie A sides including Fiorentina, Milan and youth club Parma.

Now Rossi is keen to put a stressful pre-season behind him and concentrate on success with the Yellow Submarine.

“I’ve joined a very ambitious club,” the US-born marksman grinned. “It was difficult to leave Manchester, but the first days here have convinced me that I made the right choice.”

Despite the town’s tiny population of 50,000, Villarreal are one of Spain’s top sides and reached the Champions League semi-finals in 2005-06 after beating Inter on away goals in the last 16.

“The big objective is to get back in the Champions League where the side did so well two years ago,” Rossi explained. ”I can already see that this side can challenge in any competition - La Liga, the UEFA Cup or the Champions League.”

Finally, the ex-Ducali ace was quizzed about his future and the possibility of a return to Old Trafford.

“I know that there is a clause that will let me return to Manchester United,” he admitted. “But I’m just thinking of Villarreal.”

Azzurrini starlet Giuseppe Rossi bagged a brace as Villarreal beat La Liga minnows Real Murcia 2-0.

The Parma youth product was brought on as a subsitute at half-time and turned the game around with his second and third goals in the Yellow Submarine’s jersey.

Italy’s striking exports Luca Toni and Giuseppe Rossi continue to fire on all cylinders, but there are fears over Azzurri stopper Gianluca Zambrotta.

Toni is enjoying life in the Bundesliga since his £7m summer move from Fiorentina to Bayern Munich and wrote himself on the scoresheet once more last night.

The giant hitman scored Bayern’s third in their 5-0 demolition of Brandenburg minnows Energie Cottbus to take his tally to five goals in six games in Germany.

Parma youth product Rossi is also in fine form and he followed up his brace agaist Real Murcia last weekend with a strike in Villarreal’s 2-0 win over Racing Santander.
