It's offical, Grosso to Lyon.
Quote:
Lyon will officially unveil Fabio Grosso as their latest signing on Monday after the Inter man passed his medical with the French champions.
The left-back underwent a series of examinations in the French city this morning and is now just hours away from becoming a Ligue 1 player.
The World Cup winner, who netted the decisive penalty shoot-out kick in the Germany 2006 Final against France, will cost Lyon around £5m.
Grosso will sign a four-year contract worth £1.4m a season and has already been assigned the No 11 shirt.
A Press conference to confirm his transfer has already been set-up for Monday by the Champions League regulars.
Grosso leaves Inter after just one season at the San Siro following his £4m move from Palermo a year ago.

Ciao Fabio. It's was a great privilege to watch you these past few years. You did well with Palermo and Italy. You will always be remembered for scoring that gorgeous penalty to see Italy though as Champions! Hope you return to Italy to finish off your career!

It's scary to think he was playing in Serie C just a few years ago.

Like Luca Toni. Late bloomers that have achieved so much greatness in such a short time at the top level. Players like Toni, Grosso who fought their way to reach the levels they are today, deserve a big club.

I am bumbed Grosso has left, couldn't care that he leaves Inter but the fact that he left Italy, quite a sad day for me. I am a huge fan of him, and a year after his fantastically taken penalty to give us the WC he signs for Lyon.
He was unveiled earlier on today:

Grosso never adjusted, but the real reason for his departure, is that Maxwell is just much better at WHAT we need. A pacey fullback with skill, and the ability to move the ball up. Grosso is alright, but not that good. Coupled to the fact that he had some real stinkers this year.

I expect Andreolli to play more. We don't have success in buying Italians from other Serie A clubs. Why? I have no fukin idea.
We will have to develop our own, that is the only way it seems.

Why do suddenly Italian football players escape from Italy these days? Now I've read that Bianchi also will leave.

It has become a fashion now.
A few years back, you could hardly count Italian and German players playing abroad.

It is not "fashion". Its because Italian players are sought after, because they have the traights that make them desirable.
They work hard and are very talented.

Italian players were sought even before Jager.
It's not that case.
To me it looks as a fashion, anyway.
Referring to Germany situation.
You could hardly name a few players playing outside Germany.
After Ballack's move to Chelsea, more Germans are departing every season.
It's not that German players weren't desirable before.

I disagree.
In the last five years or so, Italy has been producing top talent, that is very desirbable.
Look at all the strikers we are creating, and most of the players that are leaving are strikers.
Grosso being more of an anomaly.
Its going to be hard to find "homes" for all them, and that is my thinking as to why they are leaving.
It never used to be this way. I also feel that contrary to what many people think, that the talent in Italy has gone even more up.
Many clubs are adding decent players.
Miccoli coming back, Rossi came back, Lupoli came back if I'm not mistaken.
So I don't see this as a problem or bad.
Foreign federations are looking at Italy, and saying these guys are good, they develop excellent players.
In Italy the development is top notch, take a look at Martins..
yes, we have problems, but I don't feel this is a bad thing, but just part of being successful.

Another factor is the financial aspect.
Serie A used to be where the money was at, things have changed now though.

As I stated, Italian clubs are living within their means, and this is not a bad thing.
