Barcelona Intensify Silva Push
Quote:
Barcelona sporting director Txiki Begiristain has intensified efforts to sign Valencia left-winger David Silva, according to reports in Spain.
The Blaugrana are looking to bolster their squad in light of recent failures on the pitch, as well as replace certain players who are set to leave Camp Nou this summer.
Sport claim that Begiristain is eyeing the midfielder for his versatility in the middle of the park, which Silva has displayed for Los Che, playing on either wing and in the hole.
Los Che have warned that they may be forced to sell some of their most prized assets and, although several clubs are interested in Silva, the chances of him moving to Barcelona are increasing as Valencia try and balance their books.
With Ronaldinho expected to sign for Milan soon, Begiristain is looking for a player who can easily adapt to cover for the out-going Brazilian playmaker.
It is believed the Catalan giants will be able to land the player for around €18 million and Silva would be tempted by a move to Camp Nou as he will be able to increase, if not double, his current salary as well as play Champions League football next season.
It is understood that Barcelona are pushing for Florent Malouda as well, hoping to close the deal for one of the two before the start of the European Championship.

Barcelona To Rekindle Silva Interest
Quote:
Barcelona are preparing to test Valencia's mettle and make a bid for David Silva to bolster the left side of their midfield even though the player is said to be unavailable, according to Sport.
The Blaugrana are keen to continue strengthening after Joan Laporta scraped through the vote of no confidence and the signing of a big name star would help appease disgruntled fans.
Valencia have constantly stated the 22-year-old will not be leaving after rumours suggested that either he or David Villa would have to be sold on this summer.
One problem is that, if reports are to be believed, los Ché are on the verge of a financial disaster and need to sell one of their star names to ward off the problems.
The arrival of the former Telefónica president, Juan Villalonga, at the club to help straighten things out has emboldened Barça because they believe that he will have no romantic ideals.
If a player needs to be sold because the bid is too good to refuse, then the Blaugrana believe that the hard-headed businessman will have no qualms in doing so.
Silva would jump at the chance to team up again with his fellow Euro 2008 midfield partners, Xavi and Andrés Iniesta, at Camp Nou, but will not be asking to leave Mestalla.

Silva would fit in perfectly at Barça. I'd love him too.

atm it seems that he is closer to atletico madrid, and after the signing of hleb I'm not sure that guardiola will make a lot of efforts to sign him... but I hope things change and silva plays for us somehow.

He'll either stay with Valencia or be sold abroad, same for Villa.

Silva Remains On Barca Radar
Quote:
Sport.es reports that Barcelona are far from finished in the transfer market, and that David Silva is a top target...
After a fine display at Euro 2008 the Canarian winger could be allowed to move on for the Mestalla - for a price, of course.
Despite signing Aliaksandr Hleb of Arsenal, Barcelona may be willing to pay a considerable fee for a player who is apt to run at defences from the left, and Silva seems to fit the bill.
Barça technical secretary Txiki Begiristain and coach Josep 'Pep' Guardiola are in agreement that the former Celta de Vigo ace ticks all the necessary boxes for a wide attacking role at Camp Nou and that he would prove a definite improvement to a front line that seems increasingly threadbare after Ronaldinho's departure.
But with Los Che only willing to accept a major transfer fee for one of their crown jewels, actually landing Silva could prove problematic.
This could take on extra significance after Sport.es revealed that the blaugrana apparently now see little room for Andrei Arshavin in their line-up, with Silva having long since been made the number one target by Guardiola. Txiki, then, will need to do his best to negotiate a decent price.

Ofensiva por Silva | SPORT | Barça
Mundo Deportivo - Arreón por Silva
Both EMD and SPORT report that Barca are going on the offensive for David Silva. Roma were thought to be close to sealing a deal but Bronzetti came out and said that he will eventually move to Barca and Spalletti denied rumours of signing him.
EMD say that Barca will offer 18m euros plus 4m in variables which they hope Valencia will accept.
Personally I would have got Silva before Hleb but Pep seems to want them both. For the 4-3-3 he has 5 positions of which he would need to fit in 7 players in - Yaya Toure, Seydou Keita, Xavi, Iniesta, Messi, Hleb and now David Silva. Last season the fantastic 4 never played together because one was always out with an injury of suspension so I think some of that will come into account but also a bit of rotation.

Seriously though I really wanted to see Silva in a roma shirt.I hope Valencia sells him abroad that way we have a chance of signing him.

That moment of a reported bid from Man Utd was a weird moment - on the one hand we want a striker not a winger and on the other he's a fantastic player.
Even with this contract, unless Valencia completely turn it around, to the point where they're looking like challenging for the league again, I think Barcelona will eventually get him. Next summer it could be on again.

I am very disappointed. I realy thought he was going to come, after he was declared as a top target in the barcelona press...
