Lippi: I Want Barcelona Job
Quote:
Lippi Picks Milan And Barcelona For Europe
Former Italy coach Marcelo Lippi isn't too downbeat following his country's 3-1 loss to Hungary last night, maintaining his belief that they will come good at the right moment.
The ex-Juventus boss also gave his Champions League predictions for the new season, citing Milan and Barcelona as favourites...
Marcelo Lippi insisted today that Italy still have what it takes to hit form at the right time, even in the wake of that disastrous 3-1 away friendly defeat to Hungary.
The former Azzurri coach said, "I didn't see the game, and in any case it's not up to me to speak about Italy, but I think I can say that the squad is strong and will come good."
Lippi, whose Italian squad lifted the World Cup last year, added, "It's not true that the players have no motivation. The will to win is there, and it will appear at the right time."
The ex-Inter boss quit the Azzurri post last year in a "mission accomplished" gesture and since then has taken up a position of commentator with Sky television. (Interestingly, another prominent Italian boss - Fabio Capello - does similar work for RAI.)
Lippi turned his attention away from Roberto Donadoni's men to weigh in on the Champions League, which he won with Juventus in 1996.
"For the Champions League, I think that Milan are favourites, but Barcelona has an extraordinary squad.
"Inter's won two consecutive titles and will of course try for the Champions League, but it would be foolish of them to neglect the league.
"Juventus, as always, will play to win, and that could help them," he concluded.
Finally, Marcelo looked at two of the Azzurri prodigal sons: Christian Vieri and Antonio Cassano.
Vieri, beset by team difficulties and injuries since parting ways with Inter in 2005, has the chance to end his career on a high note at Fiorentina, while Cassano's Madrid nightmare could end if he does well at Sampdoria.
The venerable coach offered some words of encouragement to the pair, saying, "I am sure that Christian will have a great season, while Antonio will have to work hard to take advantage of his new tifosi's enthusiasm.
"I believe that this can be a vintage year for him."

Breaking News: Lippi receives Barca offer!
channel4.com - Football Italia
Quote:
He was linked with the England job, but it is now reported Marcello Lippi is lined up as the next boss of Barcelona.
The 2006 World Cup winning Coach was named by newspapers as a potential candidate for the job that went to fellow Italian Fabio Capello this week, but is eager for a return to club management.
According to this morning’s edition of Turin-based paper ‘Tuttosport,’ Lippi is top of Barca’s wish-list for next season.
Frank Rijkaard’s position has been in the balance since losing La Liga to Capello’s Real Madrid last term in a late turnaround, but the Blaugrana’s problems are continuing and he is not expected to remain on the bench.
As well as Lippi, the other candidate for the Nou Camp is former Chelsea Coach Jose Mourinho.

Lippi knew that the offers were going to come in, I think Barca would be so lucky to have him.

It's him or Mourinho. Both much better than Rijkaard and really what Barca need.

Not good to have these rumours right before the big match.
I'd rather you have lippi than mourinho. shame for the barca fans though, what boring football you'd play

I would prefer Wenger or Pellegrini personally but if Rijkaard wins against Real Madrid next season then he's safe until the end of the season.

For me personally I'd prefer to have Wenger or Pellegrini because I know their passing football and I think it would suit Barca well.
Lippi always seems like a gentleman to me so I'd take him every time over Mourinho who I'd be worried about dragging us through the mud. Lippi's Juventus knew how to defend but could also attack. Not such a bad thing for Barca but I'm not totally sure he'd attack as much as the Barca fans would want him to. Remember Van Gaal who despite winning 2 titles was still booed for playing dodgy football.

Wenger is very good, I do rate him highly, and I think he as good or possibly better than Lippi.
Just wanted an explanation, that's all.
Is Wenger leaving Arse?

Wenger won't leave Arsenal. As he says he "hasn't finished his project yet".
2 years down the line might be different but I doubt it. Pellegrini would sort of be like a Wenger clone that would be realistic for us to get.

Pellegrini has done great things at Villarreal, but i'm not sure how well he would do at a massive club like Barcelona.
Lippi is a great manager and is totally different to Cappelo. But still i'm not sure what he would do with a squad like this. I still prefer the team playing with Rijkaard's freedom.

Same here, it would be perfect to have a great technician next to him though. Someone who knows exactly how to use the players, what system to play, etc.
