Rijkaard takes the blame
Quote:
Frank Rijkaard has shouldered responsibility for Barcelona's recent loss of form which has seen them slip to consecutive defeats against Chelsea and Real Madrid.
The Dutch coach feels his team selections have played a major part in the slump and insists he will now look for a return to the principles that made his side so successful.
"I haven't done well," Rijkaard confessed. "The alignments and the style of play haven't been clear, and my substitutions have not helped us to win the last two games.
"The attitude of the team has been good, but I think now is the moment to return to basic principles.
"Perhaps I have focused too much on individuals managing things so that one player or another plays, and failed to concentrate on what is best for the team overall.
"I have done things which have affected the team and taken us away from our usual tactics.
"The team hasn't functioned well and we can't continue like this. It has been a warning call for me."
Rijkaard, who had previously found himself almost beyond reproach having guided Barca to successive league titles and the UEFA Champions League last term, has come in for criticism from the Catalan media for his tactics in both the Chelsea and Real matches.
His decisions to play three at the back at Stamford Bridge and to then drop Rafael Marquez for the showdown with Real were widely questioned and, with Samuel Eto'o sidelined for the long-term, the former Holland boss is facing his first real test at the helm for some time.

Rijkaard have to use Saviola in Etoo's absence. He insists on benching him for personal reasons and thats why Barcelona are struggling to score goals at the moment.

But fair play to him for taking the blame. This will take all of the pressure off the players, including Ronaldinho. This is a bold move from Rijkaard, putting himself on the line for the press to hang to protect his players.

Barca have been lucky with injures on Ronaldinho and Etoo the last two years. Unfortunatly with Barca eyes, but they are too dependent on them. Remember the few defeats they had last season...Etoo or Ronaldinho didn't play.
They have not the same width as Real Madrid have. They can have Ronaldo and Raul out and replace them with Van Nistelrooy and Cassano.
But, remember that Barca are still La Liga leaders.

It's unbelievable that a strong club and world leader in club football like Barca don't have a good cover for Eto'o.You need more than one goalgetter when you got ambitions like Barelona has. They have been lucky until now.And now they have to pay.Sometimes you don't see the problem before when it's front of you.

Saviola is a good cover for Etoo, if used.

Saviola can't replace Eto'o mate, even though he is much better than Gudjhonsen.
Barcelona should look for a striker imo
