Man Utd On Alert As Chelsea Make £10m Bid For Dos Santos

Quote:
According to a report in The Sun, Chelsea are pushing for the signing of Barcelona wonderkid Giovani Dos Santos.

Dos Santos has been likened to Ronaldinho by those who have seen him come up the ranks, and his stock seems to be rising in the Premiership.

Chelsea assistant coach Henk Ten Cate knows the youngster all too well from his days at Barcelona - thought Giovani was playing with the B team then - and seems to have recommended him to boss Avram Grant.

With the Mexican forward's future at the Catalan club far from certain as he looks for regular football - he is supposedly unhappy that he has fallen behind Bojan Krkic in the pecking order - Chelsea have decided to step in with a £10million bid.

The Sun claim that this comes after the player and his agent met with Avram Grant, Sir Alex Ferguson and Juande Ramos during a short trip to England at the end of last month.

Tottenham are also said to be looking for an attacking midfielder, but their offer is said to be only £7m, albeit attached with a guarantee of first team football.

Ferguson, meanwhile has been an admirer of the Mexican, and Manchester United did try to snap him up two years ago before he chose Barcelona. They have been alerted by this latest development, but have ruled out a winter move, and will only look at the 18-year-old at the end of the season.

Barcelona, however, seem to be in no mood to listen to offers, particularly with Thierry Henry having a few fitness worries, Ronaldinho out of form, and Samuel Eto'o leaving for Africa.

Spurs Want Giovani At All Costs

Quote:

Although he never reached his full potential at Barcelona last season, Giovani dos Santos continues to attract interest from all around Europe, with Tottenham Hotspur leading the chase to sign him.

Giovani dos Santos' days at Barcelona could soon be over. Despite a relatively unsuccessful season with the Catalan giants, the Mexican international continues to attract interest from abroad.

His services are wanted in Italy and England, with Tottenham showing the most interest, to the degree that they have offered Barca €15 million for the 18-year-old.

Having already signed Luka Modric of Croatia, the Londoners have made Giovani their next priority, and signs indicate that they will do their utmost to snap him up. Barca could well accept the offer, and if this is the case Spurs will get their man.

Giovani has expressed his desire to play in the Premier League, and affirmed that "everything indicates that yes" he could well be playing there next season.

"It is always tempting to play for important clubs, and more for those in England, which for me is the most important league in the world, everyone would like to play in that league," he stated.

However, Tottenham aren't the only Premier League team interested in the Mexican. Chelsea are also tracking the youngster, and Giovani has affirmed that he would be delighted to join the club.

"Yes, they (Chelsea) have already spoken to my agent, and they have always kept an eye on me, they like what I've done, and are interested in my services; I'd like to play there, they are a great team," he said.

Giovani explained a determining factor in his impending departure from Camp Nou is the treatment he has received from the fans, who have clearly lost patience with him: "No-one likes to be where they aren't wanted, and the smartest thing to do is to leave for somewhere where you will be appreciated."

Everything seems to indicate that next season Giovani will play his football in the Premiership. Whether that be at Tottenham or Chelsea is a whole different matter.

The rumoured price is between 8m euros and 15m euros. The sum nearer 8m is more likely. Barca never get good fees for their players (bar Figo who's buyout clause was met).

Dos Santos To Tottenham This Week

Quote:

Giovani Dos Santos is on the verge of completing a move from Barcelona to Tottenham Hotspur after a basic agreement was reached between all three parties.

The 19-year-old Mexican international could join the Premier League side as early as Monday according to Sport after Barça accepted an €8m bid.

That fee may rise to €11m depending on both Dos Santos and Tottenham meeting specified targets during his four-year stay at White Hart Lane.

Dos Santos' father, Zizinho, admitted that his son is proud and excited by the thought of moving to such a prestigious club as he told Mexican daily paper, Record, that a deal was in the offing.

"Nothing has been finalised," he said. "But it is an honour that a club as important as Tottenham want to sign Giovani, but nothing can be said officially yet.

"The ambitious project that Tottenham have has excited Giovani and he just wants to go there and help the team in any way he can.

"It is obvious that leaving Barcelona is a risky decision, but with his qualities it appears that it could be the best option for him."

Juande Ramos was very keen to land the starlet because he strongly believes that his pace, ability to break into the area and shooting ability make him perfect for the English game.

Although a deal has not been finalised, Dos Santos' agent, Pini Zahivi, and Barça's sporting vice-president, Marc Ingla, believe that there will be few problems in reaching an agreement.

Throughout the negotiations, Dos Santos himself has been undergoing treatment to recover from a an operation that he had on his ankle in the middle of May and is set to keep him out of action for another four weeks.

Bad news for Barca if we sell him.

Dos Santos: I Will Play For Tottenham Next Season

Quote:

Giovani Dos Santos has confirmed that he will be playing for Tottenham Hotspur next season and cited the fact that Juande Ramos being the coach as the main reason.

The 19-year-old told reporters after a friendly between Argentina and Mexico that he had agreed to move to White Hart Lane and had turned down Manchester City.

Barcelona and Tottenham have agreed an initial fee of just €6m for the player that was considered to be one of the hottest prospects at Camp Nou just two years ago.

That figure may rise to €10m depending on clauses being activated in his contract, but the news will be a huge boost for the north London club and their summer rebuilding plans.

"Next season I will be playing for Tottenham," Dos Santos is quoted by Sport as stating, before he went on to claim that the main attraction was the chance to work under Ramos.

Barça are believed to have opted to off-load the youngster after his father and his agent, Pini Zahivi, regularly told the club that he would accept one of the many offers if he was not given a pay rise.

The club demanded that he improve his performances in order to earn that rise and made assurances that his pay would be related to how well he did on the first team.

With more and more clubs showing an interest, Dos Santos has now chosen to move to Tottenham after revealing that he did have a number of other options on the table.

Another starlet leaves for peanuts. Although this time unlike Cesc Fabregas, Pique and the rest we actually had the chance to get some money for him. Selling him for €6m euros is ridiculous. We should have told Spurs to shove it and held out for more for someone who still has the potential to be a €25m euros player.

Dos Santos didn't leave because he loved Spurs more than Barca. He didn't leave for the club or for that he'd get more playing time because he got a lot at Barca for his age. He's left if we're honest for the money. Barca refused to meet his wage demands said to be £60k a week and so have let him leave for somewhere who will pay the wages he wants.

Giovani transferred to Tottenham Hotspur

Quote:

FC Barcelona and Tottenham Hotspur FC have come to an agreement for the transfer of Giovani Dos Santos to the English club.

The Mexican will sign for the club managed by Juande Ramos until June 30, 2013 for a fee 6 million euros plus another 5 million depending on the player’s appearances for the London club during his five year’s of contract.

FC Barcelona also maintain 20% of the financial rights to any possible transfer of the player during his first two years of contract and 10% on any transfer from his new club, Tottenham Hotspur FC.

Giovani dos Santos, aged 19, joined Barça in 2002/03 and joined the Infantil A (Under 15) squad, eventually making his first team debut in 2007/08, in which he has played an intermittent part in Frank Rijkaard’s first team.

It's official, terrible price. At least we still get a possible 11m euros if he plays a lot and get 20% of the fee if he's sold in 2 years.
