Krkic was recently shortlisted for the Canada 2007 U-20 World Cup, but has been given a leave from the U-20 Team so as to honour the committment he has with the U-17 National Team against the forthcoming U-17World Cup in Korea. Krkic scored all the goals for Spain in both the Semi-Final and the Final matches enroute the U-17 World Cup qualifying matches. He also assisted in setting up the goal that gave Spain their qualifying match victory against Georgia in his recent U-21 debut.

FC Barcelona's kid-wonder, Giovanni Dos Santos continues to impress in Youth World Cup.
Giovanni Dos Santos has confirmed his high ratings in the on-going FIFA U-20 Youth World Cup by opening scoring against Gambia in Mexico's 3-0 victory. Giovanni struck in the 57th minute and opened the floodgates for teammates, Moreno Hector and Hernandez Javier to score in the 67th and 89th minutes respectively, sealing victory for the Mexicans. Mexico is tipped as one of the winners of the Chamionship, after players from the winning U17 World Cup squad for 2005 also represent in the current team. Commenting after the match, Dos Santos said:
I am thrilled to have scored my first goal in the Under-20 World Championships. It was a wonderful moment and one that is better imagined than described. I felt great. We have a good team and everyone is playing well. Our aim is to be world champions.
Dos Santos explained that his excellent showing was as a result of good training in FC Barcelona junior team, Barca B as well as with the FC Barcelona senior team as well, who he has played for already:
Barcelona has really helped me grow and I dedicate my achievements to Barca. I have been privileged to play among the best footballers in the world and I have gained a lot from doing this at FC Barcelona. As for the current media buzz about me and my talents as well as my future, I appreciate all that is being said about me. However, it does not really affect me negatively. I just play my usual game and try to combine well with those who I play with in any team I find myself in and in all matches I feature in.

Gio dos Santos scores again at the U-20 World Cup. This time he wins the penalty and converts it. The highlights of the game are in the video above. Mexico beat Portugal in the end 2-1.
Mexico have won both games so far and have qualified for the Second Round. Their last group game will be against New Zealand who have lost both of their opening 2 matches to the teams Mexico have beaten.

Great show from Gio
In front of a boisterous, sell-out crowd in suddenly football-mad Toronto, Mexico's diminutive superstar-in-the-making Giovanni dos Santos set a previously sluggish match alight after being dragged down in the box just minutes after the break. The classy Barcelona youth, dubbed the new Ronaldinho and looking more like the Brazilian maestro and his club teammate every day, then stepped up to bury the spot kick.
Filled with confidence against the two-time U-20 champions, El Tri deservedly pushed their lead six minutes after the hour mark when substitute Carlos Barrera blasted a half-volley into the back of the net from 10 yards out. With the match surprisingly by the scruff of the neck, Mexico coach Jesus Ramirez took out the delightful Dos Santos in the 85th minute to a standing ovation, and as if to show his importance to the CONCACAF side, Portugal pulled one back moments later from Antunes' powerful 20 yard free kick.

Barca Consider Dos Santos Loan Deal
Barca Consider Dos Santos Loan Deal
Quote:
The LFP's stringent rules against excessive numbers of non-EU players seem set to affect Barcelona. With an excess of foreigners on their hands, Barca may have to loan out promising talent Giovanni dos Santos to keep room for more regular players...
Giovanni dos Santos, currently representing Mexico at the U-20 World Cup, may be loaned out for the new campaign if Barcelona can't arrange for him to gain a Spanish passport.
Due to the LFP's rules against excessive numbers of players from outside the European Union, as well as the 18 year old dos Santos' promotion to the first team, the Mexican may have to temporarily step aside to make room for Ronaldinho, Eto'o and Toure.
Obviously, the ideal move is for Barcelona to gain Spanish nationality for one of their players, but this is proving more difficult than first thought. Ronaldinho and Eto'o, despite their veteran status, are arguably more difficult to nationalise than dos Santos while Toure is a new arrival.
Unless things are progressing in plenty of time for the August 31st transfer deadline, dos Santos may be temporarily moved on.
Previously, Chivas of Mexico mooted a loan deal but were rebuffed by both player and club. Dos Santos would allegedly only return to Mexico for the sake of Club America, his favourite team, or a Monterrey club.
The highly-rated youngster has only made two league appearances so far but is definitely regarded as one of Barcelona's future stars.

that's a very sad thing if proven right...
a loan could be a good thing for the player, until they get his spanish passport... but if rijkaard plans to let him play, an average of 30 mins a game, lets say, then they must not give up. messi had the same problem at first, he had to get spanish passport to be able to play for barca, and in the first quarter of the season he didn't have one, but after that he got it and played.
and he would be able to be in the team for a month when eto'o and toure go to the african championships.
btw, dos santos can play in the CL without being spanish, right?

Well the information is slightly false in that Yaya Toure has already applied for dual nationality and should get it next week so the 3 non-EU place thing won't be a problem. Gio dos Santos can also apply for dual nationality as a Mexican living in Spain for 2 years except for in his case he may already be dual nationality Brazilian as his dad was Brazilian.
Rijkaard will keep Bojan and dos Santos over pre-season and evaluate whether they should go out on loan or stay with the first team. They have already had an offer from Chris Coleman of Sociedad to take them on loan for a season but Rijkaard won't do anything until after pre-season.

Giovani dos Santos será español antes de que empiece la Liga - SPORT - Barça
Laporta confirms that dos Santos will get a Spanish dual nationality passport in the next 2 weeks so the non-EU thing won't be a problem. Also another story on SPORT that dos Santos turned down a huge offer from Chelsea to stay at Barca.

FCBarcelona.cat
7 youngsters travelling to Saint Andrews, those being Giovani Dos Santos, Bojan Krkic, Marc Valiente, Oier Olazábal, Marc Crosas, Dimas and Jesús Olmo.
Giovani Dos Santos and Bojan Krkic will probably be in the first team this season and Marc Valiente and Marc Crosas (just rejected Liverpool) may be as well.
Oier Olazábal is a hot gaolkeeping talent and only just joined this season. We may see him as Valdes' number 2 or Barca's number 1 in the future
