Angel decision a must
David O'Leary has welcomed the decision of chairman Doug Ellis to try and thrash out a new contract with leading scorer, Juan Pablo Angel.
O'Leary revealed last week that Ellis was planning to set up talks with Angel's advisors to try and persuade the Colombian international to sign a new long-term contract.
Angel comes to the end of his current deal next summer although Villa do have a one-year option on the former River Plate marksman who cost them a club record £9.5m from the Argentinian side.
His form this season has led to growing speculation that he will be the target of bids from Spanish clubs this summer.
But no-one at Villa Park wants to cash in on Angel - especially O'Leary.
He said: "Personally, I would not like to do that. I do not think anyone at the club would like to do that. I would be totally against it."
"What we cannot afford to do is lose too many players as we would be totally devastated.
"We have a lot of tough games to come and you need your top players for the top matches. We are hungry and we will show that hunger and desire."
i can see wots gonna happen here..... ellis will intentionally offer him peanuts so he can use the excuse that angel was greedy and try and cash in on him..... hel then giv o'leary 50% of the transfer fee for players and keep the rest himself..... man i fuckin hate ellis........

Keeping hold of Angel has to be a must for you. It'll be a massive blow if he leaves. I may be thinking of someone else but didn't he do an interview a while back here he stated that he wanted Villa to show more ambition and spend more money on signing new players before he'd consider signing?
He's out of contract next summer and since he cost you £9.5m it'd be criminal if he were to leave on a bosman - especially if his good form continues till then.

Either that or DO'L's powers of persuasion have worked wonders on persuading him to stay. If he can get £110m out of a greedy fat pillock, I shouldn't think that would be too hard.......: :
But Angel and Alpay are altogether different. Alpay were heavily tarnished after THAT Ingerrland game whereas Angel will be an exciting proposition for English and European clubs alike. That said, if he didn't re-sign, I'd doubt you'd make a profit on him in the current market.

when we tried to sell alpay, his rep wasnt as bad. he wanted to leave villa after the world cup cos he thought he was better than villa but no one wanted him for wot ellis was asking. we even had a swap deal with david dunn and a milion or summat and ellis wanted more.... we all know wot happened with that.... in the end, after the beckham incident, we had to pay that fucker to leave, which made me sick.... id rather he rot in the reserves...... but it helped team spirit so good riddance.... if angel didnt want to re-sign or the more likely, ellis wantin to pay him 57p and a packet of pork scratchings a week, and angel rightly not goin for it, wel not make a profit on him if we did try and sell him anyway. the markets not wot it was even for an in form player like angel, but makin any money on a player will be a step up for ellis, if it comes to it......

Were he that disruptive/unliked though? I too always thought he were a pretty good player. I also remember after the whole Beckham debacle that there were an interview/article where someone at Villa were singing his praises and saying that whenever he went away on holiday/International duty, he always came back laden with presents for everyone at the club. Doesn't particularly strike me as the actions of a scumbag, especially since when English footballers go away they mostly seem to come back with criminal charges/STD's. ::grrrr::
But seriously, Incheon United, SK? Really? Think he's better than that TBH.

quality player when his head was screwed on right. he was a quality guy too at the beginning. but after the world cup and being named in the world cup top team, it went to his head. he turned his back on everyone including his friends... when he first came to villa, he was good mates with a turkish guy who ran a resteraunt. after the world cup had altered his ego, he just tossed him aside. he then slated the villa and the players and said he wanted to leave and refused to play for a while cos he wanted to play for a bigger club. the only thing turnip boy did right was to let him rot in the reserves, even when he wanted to play. o'leary played him for a bit and he was shit cos he didnt care about villa. which caused a lot of dressing room unrest. i was pleased with the beckham incident cos it showed this tossers true colours and got rid of him. although, if ellis had cashed in on him when he could hav, then wed hav made some money on him....... but thats just ellis's business skills for ya........ alpay is too good for the south korea league tbh but im glad hes playin in a mickey mouse league. thing is, who would want to touch him after the way he acted? he deserves to be retired injured but his career down the pan is the next best thing........
