Laursen Hopes O誰eill Stays
Following England痴 defeat to Russia on Wednesday and possible exit from Euro 2008 at the qualification stage, manager Steve McClaren痴 job appears to be hanging on the thinnest of fibres.
If the Football Association decides to show him the door, Aston Villa boss Martin O誰eill has emerged as one of the favourites to succeed him.
The former Leicester City boss was interviewed for the position following the resignation of Sven Goran Eriksson, however the FA decided to give the job to McClaren.
Since then O誰eill has transformed Aston Villa into an exciting, pacey outfit that are capable of playing entertaining football.
One of the players that has shone under the tutelage of O誰eill, Danish defender Martin Laursen, hopes the boss will not be tempted by a move to manage England if the opportunity arises.
The Denmark defender said: "I hope Martin O'Neill will stay at Villa. He has got time later on to manage England.
"He is still quite young. He is doing well for us, the fans love him and the club is definitely moving forward. I hope he will stay with us.
"I don't know if he is going to move. He is in their thoughts because his name was up there when Sven Goran Eriksson left the job. Hopefully he will stay a bit longer with us."
