Spurs v Villa
Quote:
Tottenham fans will hope a return to White Hart Lane can see them find some form over the festive period.
Spurs came unstuck at Newcastle on Boxing Day, with the defeat their sixth away reverse of the campaign.
In contrast, Spurs have won seven of their nine games at home and Martin Jol will hope to add to the tally against Aston Villa on Boxing Day.
Villa's form has dipped in recent weeks and Saturday's loss to Manchester United extended their winless run to seven games, while they have not won at Spurs since April 2000.
Spurs seemed disrupted by the injury Jermain Defoe picked up in the warm-up at Newcastle and he is doubtful for the visit of Villa.
Jol, though, will have more time to formulate a plan and he could well opt to pair Mido with Dimitar Berbatov, as Robbie Keane is again sidelined with a knee problem.
Aaron Lennon is doubtful, having missed the trip to Newcastle, and Jermaine Jenas is also out.
Villa chief Martin O'Neill is unlikely to hit the panic button as he was happy with his side's display against Manchester United.
Gavin McCann is the major worry for Villa, as he passed a late fitness test on his hamstring to face United but did not finish the game.
Juan Pablo Angel and Milan Baros are pushing for starts and one of those two could come in for Chris Sutton.

game was very even first half..
we have had 5 injuries in the game and end up with 6 rookies on the pitch at once...
we were on top until they scored against the run of play, and then jsut went to pot...
no win in 8 and no goal in christ knows how many....

Final score 2 - 1
Defoe [57] 1 - 0
Defoe [76] 2 - 0
Barry [80] 2 - 1
Match looked pretty even (I haven't seen it yet because I'm at work).

Sorry mate. Did you see the game? Tell me a bit about it please. Were there bad calls? Missed chances, etc.?

you deserved to win simply for the fact that you put away your chances...
that was the main difference...
game was pretty even and in that respect, a draw would have been a fairer result...
it does frustrate me though that we can play well, and were on top of the action up until you scored, then went back into our shell until you scored the second and were then the better side...
there was also a penalty decision that went against us from gabby being pulled in the box...
but thems the dice and you roll with them...
just wasnt our day today...
im proud of the young lads today though... 5 injuries in the match, 3 subs at half time, and we ended up with 6 rookies on the pitch for the whole of the second half....
they fought hard and battled to get something from the game, but it just wasnt to be...
cheer up bb, we could have it worse...
im disappointed but proud today...
the young lads did well... they battled and fought, and could have nicked an equaliser against a side that cost millions to assemble...
another thing is this highlights even more so that we NEED, desperately, a LOT of new players..
personally, i see that as a positive...

Thanks for the update mate. I know how you feel. For years I've watched Spurs squander chance after chance and either blow matches at the end or do the same thing you were talking about with Villa where they don't live up to the challenge at the right times. It's actually a strange feeling to see Spurs putting away chances, but I am very happy for Defoe because he went through a tough spell and had to prove himself again even though I think he's a very good player. He is putting away a lot of chances and scoring freely now which is great.
Cheer up Andy. Those young lads will keep getting better/stronger.
